I was staying in New Africa Hotel and had read about the Thai restaurant on the top floor. Having tried Thai cuisine in Thailand and Delhi with encouraging results, I was eager to try out the Tanzanian version too.
The restaurant has a great view of the twinkling harbour in the evening. Most of the tables are arranged to take advantage of the large windows and the view outside.
The staff was very helpful and with their help we ordered Gaeng Massaman (with Chicken) and Phad Krapow (with prawns) with Sawasdee Phad Thai. I had expected rice noodles to be noodles made of rice flour similar to 'mee fun' of Chinese cuisine, but was surprised to find a preparation with both rice and noodles in it. The food came in good quantities and was freshly prepared. The flavours were authentic Thai and the taste compares well with some of the best Thai food I have had.
Sawasdee is an excellent choice for a relaxed dinner. Its superb food combines well with a captivating view of the harbour. A must visit in Dar...
