While the area may not be the safest in Dar, it is certainly lively and interesting. We had no problems in the area and everyone we met was very friendly and welcoming. The accommodations are basic but there are flushing toilets which is fabulous. No hot water but very good wifi in the rooms. We had no problems with bugs of any kind in the hotel. Breakfast, which is next door, is delicious. The downside: the street noise is quite loud.

We arrived at this hotel after a long flight from Australia. It was not really clean, the hot water didn't work and at night it's very very noisy-loud chanting, street fights and feral dogs.
Despite this after going to Moshi and returning to Dar, we stayed here again. (Must've been the cheap price) this time it was even louder all throughout the night and there was also a bright blue light outside our room that was kept on all night. In some sort of compensation they provided our room with two TVs-of which changing the channel is apparently controlled by the guy who sits on the couch downstairs. We probably won't be back.

I stayed here for 2 nights and was pretty satisfied. My room was on the 3rd or 4th floor. Somehow I never saw one mosquito in my room. The place is pretty hot, but the a/c turned on around 9 or 10 pm so you can sleep pretty comfortably. Showers are lukewarm/cool, but after being in africa for 3 weeks i was pretty used to it, and Dar is a pretty hot city anyway. I came during Ramadan, so the restaurant was closed, but there are several places close by where you can get some pretty good grilled chicken or beef for dinner. It was a sketchy part of town, so if you go out for food after dark like I did you might want to get your bearings first. I was here during the olympics, and when I asked, they turned the tv in the lobby to track and field. Service was good, and the staff knew pretty good english and were able to help me with the questions I had. As a previous reviewer stated, I would not want to stay here more than 3 or 4 nights, but it is perfect if you just need a place to shower and sleep (I was out exploring the city most of the day). I had nothing stolen from me and received no bodily harm. For 30,000 shilings (a little less than $20), I thought it was an excellent find.

The best thing about the hotel is the staff, all of whom are very helpful. The rooms are basic but clean, although a little hot. Breakfast is included at the attached restaurant which also serves nice lunch and dinner. The location is ok although it doesn't seem very safe to walk anywhere after dark.

Room Tip: There's no elevator so try to get a room on a lower floor if you don't like walking up stair...

We've been so disappointed. The service personal was unfriendly, the room wasn't clean, the mosquito net had a lot of holes --> useless, and the bathroom door was completely mouldy.
The whole place seems rotten.

We stayed for 3 days and we did like the place. Not like it was Hilton or anything, but you wouldn't hate it. Great staff (seemed to know English better than most people) and above all great atmosphere.

We stayed only for one night, just to rest between bewildering Northern Tanzania and relaxing Zanzibar. We choose it due to its proximity to the ferry port, which was a mere 5 minute taxi drive from the hotel. As for the place itself, well, it's cheap and it shows. It was reasonably clean, but the air conditioning kept losing the battle against the sweltering heat and the room was quite spartan. The staff was friendly and helpful though, and with good command of English. Breakfast is served in a building next door. The location, although somewhat central (and, as noted before, close to the ferry terminal), is rather grim and desolate. To conclude, it's a reasonable option if just wanting to sleep on the cheap side before heading out to Zanzibar.
