In April 2011 my family and I stayed at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Dar es Salaam where we also hosted our little sisters' pre wedding event on 30 April 2011. The rooms were clean, the staff freindly and very accomodating. The breakfast was awesome and the menu choice at the event was beyond what we had expected. The staff at this hotel made our experience there memorable and we would suggest any person looking for a venue in Dar es Salaam for their wedding to consider this venue. The staff were so accommodated with our many requests and this made our work coodinating the event very easy and relaxing.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 107 and suite Acacia - the best

the location is fantastic, overlooking the Indian Ocean. There is no access to the ocean as the coast is rocky but the excellent pool, in front of the Ocean, makes you feel as if you' re swimming in it. There' s breeze all day which probably makes it the "coolest " hotel in town. This also makes it mosquito-free. I' ve hardly seen one in more than 1 week. The hotel has recently been renovated. A good work has been done, the place is spotless, you see staff cleaning it all day. All the staff is ready to help you, always with a smile on their faces. The lobby is quite big and it' s an excellent meeting place, with many sofas and a bar. There' s a large and beautyful garden. The parking area is ample and security is excellent. Food is good but there' s space for improving the variety. The annexed chinese restaurant is also good.

Room Tip: Most rooms have an ocean view. Just ask for one.

The hotel as I had known it was managed badly although it was a beautiful hotel perfectly situated in one of the best areas in Dar es Salaam next to the Indian Ocean. But a friend had given a tip that the hotel had recently gone through some major changes including the management who are now Swiss and Italian. We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days and we had the most amazing time. We had a wedding party of 200 people which was well organized with excellent food which was supervised by the Italian. The waiters were friendly and understood what most of our guests wanted. All the Hotel staff was very helpful. The General Manager was always available to hear our requests and demands. The rooms were very clean and airy. The coffee shop near the lobby is one of the places one should have their coffee break. The serve yummy coffee & pastries.

Room Tip: book for the rooms facing the infinity pool

Spending some weeks for a second time in Tanzania we booked in at Golden Tulip even if the price seemed a bit high. After we had great time in good hotels with absolutely friendly staff Golden Tulip was a nightmare!!! Escallator broken since month, internet out of order and nobody was willing or able to repair, floors and restaurant haven't seen roomcleaners for ages so it was dirty und ugly and really no fun to have the poor breakfast there. Any help of the staff??? No, they even don't greet or smile ... what a difference to the warm and wonderful friendly people in Tanzania we met. But it must b e because they have to work in this hotel with only poor and basic standards ... never go there!!! It is wasted money and there are many wonderful alternative hotels in Dar es Salaam!!! The hotel is clean and relatively comfortable, but I do no have much more good to say about the place.
The airport transfer was ridiculously priced at 30$ per person per transfer, considering that the car was not clean, the air conditioner did not work and the vehicle's clutch was on its last legs.
The reception staff could be friendlier, but the waitress at the restaurant was marvellous.
