Cannot fault the hotel at all! Arriving at reception I was blown away, lovely entrance with extremely friendly door staff. First thing I saw was the cake counter so first impressions couldn't be better! Checked in with no problems and taken to my room (pool facing). Very nice room, fairly big, nice bathroom with bath. Sealed bottles of water everyday. Mini bar almost same prices as bar and restaurants. Tv had news and film channels. Bandai restaurant superb. Lovely choice of food, I would recommend the steak with jacket potato! This is where breakfast is served too! Lovely choice of cereals, fruit, full English, breads, etc. The man who plays the piano during breakfast is divinei! Pool is lovely, very quiet. Didn't use the gym, but the spa is heaven. Had a manicure, pedicure and sweedish massage by Rose. Definately recommend! Went to Swasadee twice and its just breath taking! The views of the harbour are spectacular! Food is spectacular! Cheaper than Bandai too :) reception staffs are just the best. Felt like friends I had known for years. Every evening when i came back to the hotel they would ask about my day and check if i was okay. also, celebrated my 20th birthday here. Not only did a lovely.woman, Karen, help us organise a trip to Zanzibar, but when I go back they had delivered a big personalised chocolate cake, fruit basket and wine to my room. Did a big celebration in reception and shared out all the cake. Made my birthday truely unforgettable! Cannot thank them enough! Wonderful, wonderful experience! Would go back tomorrow if I could! Would recommend this hotel to anyone! I was a solo traveller and I felt at home completely! Book now!!

Thank you for taking time to post a review of the hotel. Its very pleasing to see that the hotel exceeded your expectations on all counts. Thank you for appreciating the services of the hotel. I am glad that you enjoyed the view of the harbour. Most guests love the view of the port and the ocean and our hotel is quite lucky to have sweeping views of the same. I am visiting Dar es Salaam for business and find the hotel well run, well organized, and the decoration new and pleasant. My room has a nice view down over the Lutheran Church and out on the harbor. It's very well located for business in Dar. They are expanding, though I wonder whether this will lead to some overcapacity. The breakfast buffets are very good, and the Thai restaurant on the top floor has a nice view over the harbor at night. I sampled only one dish but the food was good, and reasonably priced. The rack rate on this hotel is way too high, as is typical for Dar es Salaam hotels. If you can get a discount it's a good bet. One complaint: the wireless works in the lobby and upstairs bar, but is inefficient everywhere else, so they use cables for internet. Due to interference from other systems, hey are planning to turn off the wireless and go completely wired--bad decision, IMHO.

Dear Tripadvisor member,

Thank you for taking the time to post the lovely review. We are glad that the hotel met your expectations largely. Your compliments on the hotels food and beverage has been noted. I shall share the same with the team and am sure that they will be highly motivated post hearing the feedback. Your comments on the wireless internet being unreliable have been noted. We have had issues in certain sections of the hotel with regards to WIFI. As pointed out by you, there is also a lot of interference from hotspots and wireless networks of the various neighbouring buildings. We have already provided wired internet in all rooms. However we need to ensure that the wireless is also equally reliable. We are currently working on a Wimax solution and this should ensure reliability of the wireless signal. We will not be discontinuing the wireless service at any point as pointed out by you, in your review. Apologies for the inconvenience caused on account of the internet. Hopefully you would have an uneventful browsing experience during your next visit to Dar.

Warm regards,
Shanker Narayanan

Definitely the place to stay in Dar es Salaam . We stayed there with family and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. What made the trip memorable was the warm courteous staff and the great food . The Thai restaurant Sawasdee is outstanding . Special mention for the tamarind prawns here and anything that the chef here dishes out is a work of art..The Indian restaurant is good and the bar is pretty lively on thu/fri.

Room Tip: Choose the sea view rooms : -)

The Hotel has a very courteous staff who take great pains to keep you comfortable from the time you land at the check-in counter. The standard rooms are really good and the club rooms are outstanding. The rooms are well furnished and have all the amenities like LCD TV, Safe for keeping your money & valuables, you can enjoy coffee with the electric kettle provided with Tea bags/coffee and creamer. The beds are comfortable and if you have a Sea Facing room you can enjoy a nice view from your room.

The room service is pretty quick and the house keeping staff is also very courteous.

Being an Indian, the nice indian cuisine in the Bandari Grill makes you really feel good and you do not miss the food back home, even though you do miss home a lot.

The Thai food in the restaurant on the 9th floor is also great and at a very reasonable price.

Overall new Africa is a great place to stay when you are in Dar not only because of the nice rooms/ courteous staff/ great food but also a it at a very good location.

For me It is truly home away from home.

Been staying at this place for close to a year and it definitely feels like a home away from home. The people here make you feel cozy and the staff is very friendly. If you are planning to stay in a hotel for long in this city, New Africa is the place to be!

Everything you find inside the room is of high quality and the hotel maintenance keep it so. The flat screen TV with sat channels make sure you don't miss home entertainment and are flexible enough to give you the channels you like! The internet though needs to provide more value for money but the WiFi connection speed is the same across all providers outside anyways.

The Thai restaurant upstairs, has got a wonderful variety of rice and noodles and a great view of the harbor during the night, a perfect place to dine in the evenings. Bhandari provides a variety of Indian delicacies with a special focus on Non vegetarian food. Nice place to hangout for a leasurly lunch. The buffet lunch however is the highlight of the afternoon and is a delight + the choice of food and dessert is amazing. The only thing needs improvement is the time taken to get the orders!

The room service is prompt and are on time most of the time but needs improvement there in terms of getting it right each time.

Other amenities include a Pool, bar, gymnasium and a Casino. Nice places to spend your weekends though the pool is quite OK. The location is quite near to the Zanzibar ferry and shopping centers in the heart of the city.

Overall a very nice place to stay and recommend it to people who want to experience the local culture.

Room Tip: 3rd floor and above has got an amazing view of the harbour

Dear Santosh,

Thank you for taking time to post a review of the hotel.

I am glad that the hotel met your expectations largely. Given the length of your stay, its heartening to note that we provided quality and service consistently. Thank you for complimenting the food at the roof top Thai restaurant as well as the Bandari grill. I shall share the feedback with the kitchen team and sure that they will be very pleased with the same. Your point on the internet has been noted. Incidentally we are trying a new Wimax solution and its available for free at the bar. We are getting rave reviews. We might move the same to the room soon. We have made wired internet already available in all guest rooms in addition to the existing wireless connection. This should definately improve the internet experience in the rooms. We thank you for your patronage of the hotel. On behalf of the team, I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.
