Not very expensive, in the centre, near the harbour. Rooms are ok, breakfast buffet quite average (with weird dishes as beef tongues !!!). Service ok, but some problems with reservations (they claimed that we paid for a single room, though on the printed confirmation there was double room stated). Artificial tiger furs, pseudo-colonial decorations does not look good… But great panoramic lift!
Great for one night stay.

On way to zanzibar with emirates via dubai this was the first stopover in the
"real" world.
For Dar Es Salaam this is absolutely recommandable.there is a mosque near
the hotel,to get rid of your jetlag wait until later.
the downstairs restaurant is allright.the staff is very friendly and we had a rate
for under 70$ including breakfast and airport pick up,which is quite a nice wellcome
after 2 days on the plane(the rate was thru expedia/just reserved,we had to pay in
cash).
the rooms were clean and had aircon and tv(eastafrican TV is highly addictive).
i would allways come back to this place.

Peacock hotel is a very inviting, comfortable hotel located right in the heart of downtown Dar. You can walk out of the hotel and very easily explore the nearby market, shops and all that Tanzania has to offer. The staff is very helpful. Rooms are well appointed. The first evening I stayed here a party or neighboring club was playing very loud music, which I found quite irritating, but the music stopped by midnight. The second night was fine. Finally, excellent email access. I will definately stay there again when returning to Dar es salaam.

This hotel is something of a hidden jewel. Very friendly staff, fantatic views of the city from the bar at the top floor. Take your own laptop and let the staff help you connect it to the internet in EVERY room. Sit in your room and surf the net from the shores of the Indian Ocean. Speed is quite acceptable after 10 pm and superb considering the general state of internet access in Tanzania.

Do be prepared for a surprise if you go to The Peacock Hotel if you are not a Muslim. The Friday prayers and indeed every morning's prayers from the nearby mosque will make you jump out of your bed every morning. Consider forgetting about your Christian faith, if you have it, while staying there, and join the Muslim prayers at 5.30 am every morning. You will be wide awake anyway.

Dar es Salaam and all of Tanzania features some of the worst Value-for-Money accomodations around and the Peacock Hotel (although well managed) is also an example.

The hotel is well located in the city center and within walking distance from most places tourists visit. The Peacock offers a ground floor restaurant featuring typical Tanz hotel fare of East African food with heavy Indian and Chinese influence - although not bad for Dar, keep your expectations low.

The rooms are quiet with decent air-cond, (mostly)clean bathrooms, comfortable beds and cable TV's - much what you would expect for $75. On the 5th floor, they have a computer with slow internet access for free, don't bother paying for the same thing down in the lobby. Credit cards are accepted for a service fee of about $5 and often asking for discounts nets you about $10.

The staff are polite, especially the doormen and 'honest' taxi's are available out front 24 hours a day. If visiting, try the Alcove restaurant, one of the best in the country.

Overall, considering the high cost of everything in Tanzania, this hotel isn't that bad and if you can afford the rate, it is recommended by this traveler.
