“New owners Even better than before”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013 via mobile

I stay at Serena regularly. Pay the extra fee to stay on executive wing - worth it. Nice new restaurant. Hotel shuttle service from airport in Eurocar vehicles gave wifi service - I used it while travelling from airport to hotel Nice touch.

The hotel is located in the centre of Dar. It has the Serena look and feel but the rooms require an upgrade. The staff were very friendly and helpful and assisted me personally. I was upgraded to the Executive Floor which was a welcome surprise. I use gyms in my travels and the gum at the Serena is below standard.

I have tried a few hotels in Dar es Salaam and this one does have consistent service. It has improved since being taken over by the Serena Group, and service has improved. Beds are new, but rooms (especially bathrooms) could do with a refresh.
Their buffets at meal times are generous and food is always good. There is a large selection of beers available in the bar which has a good outdoor area.
It is very central to the city and close to many businesses but if on holidays you may prefer one of the other cheaper hotels or ones further outside the city.
Prices are going up all over this area and the hotel's prices are too. Try to get a good rate.
Free wifi is everywhere in the hotel and speeds are good.

since the take over from movenpich the serena dar lost complet control over the proprety.
scandalious low human resources and extrem bad management of the food and beverage section.in general the introduce of a fidility card is a complet joke with rules not able for a costomer to follow.
just the basic concept from the beginning of the hotel old sherathon stays great garden swimming pool; I am there oldest costumer and still for diner i have to go out .

Had dinner at the Dar Serena and I have to say I was disappointed with the service and the food. Waiters who speak broken English can be excused and perhaps even helped to get the order right but when a waiter does not know what fillet is and confuses water melon juice for lemon then this particular Serena has a problem! The fish fillet finally came; it was nice albeit the oily vegetables (intended to be lightly fried) that accompanied it.
I felt cheated because I know of other places in Dar where the meal and service would have have far better at much less than what I paid.
Perhaps location is all that this Serena has to offer.

Not a fan of Dar itself but if you are using Dar as a base to travel elsewhere in Tanzania this is a sensible choice. Not cheap but clean and cool and oliveto restaurant works well. Free and good speed Wifi a plus. Staff very helpful and friendly.
