The Museum is open daily including public holidays from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. For foreign adults entrance fee it is 6500KES. The state of the museum is not really great, but we spent several hours in it going through all the galleries and exhibitions. Many typos. The most interesting part is about the human evolution and the events that took place in today's Africa in relation to that. However, some of its parts resemble a biology class in a school. The historical development of Tanzania is mostly presented through photos and I guess it might have been richer. Art gallery was not particularly interesting, whereas the presentation of ancient traces of art found in Africa was not bad. Ethnography and biology sections were not breathtaking either. Whatever you do, do not go to the museum cafe and restaurant - they will ask you to pay 1000KES for the chips that should be coming with the fish as a side dish for free, as in every normal restaurant. The coffee is of terrible taste, they add spices in the hot water that they bring you without asking, the coffee mugs have seen better days when it comes to washing and they did not have milk!! I expected more from the National Museum, but human evolution part was worth seeing. As for the restaurant, I am sorry I cannot evaluate it separately on Tripadvisor, then the Museum would have higher rates as it is not too bad... Huge&old fig tree in the back part of the museum with the places to sit is a nice place to get some rest and there is a monument and the automobiles exhibition (consisting of four automobiles).

This is a beautiful building of '60s. Great architecture.

The museum is good but rather small. Fine for a quick visit.

Not an extensive range of displays but still worth a visit. Very cheap and there are some great images in the gallery.

Very Average displays. I would have thought that with the history and wealth of this country it could have been much better.
