“Even doing nothing is better time spent”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

I like to visit national museums very much, to get to know more about the country. Well, this was an exception.
First of all tourists pay (like in a lot of places) about 10 times more than residents (isn't this discrimination ?) and there's almost nothing interesting to see. The things worth a visit, are in such a poor condition. So NO, this is absolutely not a must.

“Very informative”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

This museum is well worth a visit, I learned a lot about Tanzanian history, art and culture. Well written texts! There is also an extremely interesting paleological gallery. So: worth a visit. Plan at least two to three hours!

“An embarrassment to the nation of Tanzania”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

This museum is a joke, and it embarrasses the entire nation of Tanzania to have this as their national museum.

There is one collection of items retrieved by archaeologists from the first human beings that lived in Africa strewed about randomly and unguarded, if I was not a responsible traveller I would have helped myself to some of them as souvenirs as they are just laying around on the floor pretty much.

This is followed by a collection of old pictures, then a few cars that are rusting in a shed from when Tanzania became independent, including the President's first car, and then some miscellaneous items from a "traditional" Tanzanian village.

This museum as Tanzania's national museum is an embarrassment to their entire nation, and is completely bis.

Oh, and by the way, the price if you are a foreigner is five times that of a local... Shameful.
