“very good business stay, pricey though”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2013

I spent few weeks at this place. I had read some worrying recent reviews but eventually confirmed this place for its location right within the city center. In the end, the place turned up to be very good and professionally managed. The studio room I had was spacious, the kitchen functional and the room service well done.

The restaurant has a gorgeous view on the harbor (of course). Food is good although sometime heavy.

Unfortunately the ongoing construction of two huge towers almost attached to the hotel's building makes the pool and the terrace noisy and less than pleasant places.

The gym is good. The shopping center at the ground floor provides a small supermarket open 'till late, money changer, food outlets and other shops. Very convenient, as much as the location down in the center, if you are there for business. New towers and shops are opening up within few hundred meters.

Good location, a 5 minute walk from ferry terminal( good if you're heading to Zanzibar).
Looks a little tired but good pool, restaurant with some nice seafood and wide choice of meals.
Godfrey was a particularly attentive waiter and should be promoted

As with many Tanzanian hotels it generally suffers from Lazy, insolent and unhelpful  customer facing staff. At checkin half asleep receptionist denied we had a booking and seemed uninterested in finding us a room until I asked for manager who promptly retrieved it and graciously upgraded us to a great 2 bedroom suite.
Room Phones were not working or wifi in rooms but support team were unable or disinterested in resolving this and claimed there were problems with our iPads.
Nice restaurant with plenty of choice and good buffet breakfast .
Clean outdoor pool and gym makes this a good stopover .

The best feature of the hotel was the driver of the van! He was great. Waiting for us at the Dar es Salaam airport, he was a patient though not timid driver through the throng of Dar es Salaam traffic. Along the way, he chatted about Dar es Salaam people, notable businesses along our route and about the Tanzanian culture. It was an interesting ride and a considerable contrast to the last three or so weeks we had spent on safari in Tanzania.

The two room suite we booked was ready when we arrived and the air conditioning was busy chugging away, cooling the main room fairly well. The rooms do have sliding glass door onto the single long balcony that looked to run at least the length of the side of the building we were on. The direct view from our balcony was into the bathrooms of the neighboring building. The harbor was visible from an angle.

Checking to make sure the sliding glass doors were locked before we left for dinner resulted in finding three locks on the sliding glass door were broken. Since there is no barrier on the balcony to prevent anyone from walking up to your sliding glass door, anyone who strolled along the balcony could open our door and access our room. When we reported the problem to the front desk, a staff member came to check the door themself. Then they sent housekeeping for the problem and finally a maintenance person. He fixed one of the three locks that was to secure the door.

During the time we were in the room pre-dinner, everyone noticed the mold in the bathroom, not only in the shower stall but on the wall and the floor by the toilet. I would like to say that housekeeping was just having a bad day but between that, the piles of dirt on the floor that had peaks like little mountain and the lack of any top sheets on any of the beds, I think I would be giving housekeeping wayyyyy too much credit. We should have looked at TripAdvisor and told our tour arrangement person some of the hotels that were a bit higher ranked. Despite being on safari for three plus weeks, all of our tents were clean and the beds had sheets on them. It is really not too much to ask.

The quality has definitely gone down since the last visit. Rooms have not changed and are not too bad, but service levels are down. It appears that the place is now under Indian management, and everything is skimped on, including maintenance......... to explain, but most hardened travellers will know what I am referring to.
The restaurant still has a couple of really nice seafood meals, which is great, but the bias here is definitely towards Indian food. This is the first Creole restaurant that I have ever seen which serves Lamb Rogan Josh.
No bacon at breakfast and no beef available in the restaurant. If eating western food, the choice is pasta, fish or chicken. The hotel is generally acceptable for a business stay, but I would say that for vacation not.

Room Tip: Any rooms OK. Hotel starts on 9th floor, so no noise.

A nice hotel at a nice location. Has HUGE rooms with a kitchen included! Could have done better with a bigger bathroom. Staff was very friendly & supportive. Go for the King suites which are are the backside of the hotel with harbour view. Also has huge balconies with floor to ceiling sliding glass doors. AC looked a bit old but was working fine. Overall a nice hotel for business or family trip.

Room Tip: Go for the King Size Suites which have harbour view. Worth your money.

I stayed in harbor view suites two weeks ago with my friends and family when we were going to DAR for a little vacation. The rooms were big and clean and the beds were big as well. The food at the restaurant was alright. But the thing that was super cool for me as a teen to see a pool on the 9 th floor which was awesome.

Ive stayed here several times over the last few years and my stay has normally been good. The positives: Rooms are spacious, staff are friendly and very helpful, hotel is well priced compared to similar properties in Dar es salaam. Negatives: over the years the hotel has started to fall into a state of disrepair. Tvs in rooms are a good size but all the channels are fuzzy, occasional problems with the hot water, Fridges in the room dont work very well (its a hit and miss depending on what room you get), and air conditioning is outdated (they either nee to be replaced or a major overhaul/service is due). Lighting fixtures as well in some room are generally loose and need to be fixed up.

The property is in a great location and has so much potential. Unfortunately maintenance just seems to be sliding backwards.....the faults are not complicated to rectify, they just seem to be overlooked by the management...

Room Tip: Stick to the executive king rooms - the regular rooms have serious water issues (constantly varying...
