“Dar es Salaams Best Hotel”
Reviewed 4 March 2014 via mobile

This is by far Dar es Salaams best hotel. A true 5 star, exceptional chinese restaurant called the Orient, as well as an amazing open buffet restaurant called The Palm.

Rooms are spacious, clean and luxurious. The staff are kind and welcoming. Simply Dar es Salaams BEST HOTEL

This is, in my opinion, the absolute best hotel Dar if you are here on business. I've spent over 50 days here in the past year, and in all that time I haven't had a bad experience. If they key to a good hotel is consistency, this one's got it.

Food: their breakfasts are unbeatable: individual coffee/teapots, excellent hot foods and a lighter fare, a half dozen freshly squeezed juices, and very good pastries and ample cereal/granola section. Their dinners have fantastic buffets that vary by day of the week (see hotel website), and are always excellent. Their menu items are average for a high-end hotel. Despite the hotel's size, don't be surprised if the hostesses learn your name. In addition they have a great rooftop bar & decent E. Asian restaurant.

Desk Service: Excellent -- they go above and beyond to help you find a room you're happy with, and their concierge can help you to find any obscure item. They've directed a cab driver to obscure stores and restaurants and always recommended an appropriate fare. I'm a mid-tier Hyatt member and frequently get upgrades to sea-view or club rooms.

Value: The downside. This must be the most expensive place in Dar to purchase food or drink. Even other luxury hotels have cheaper prices for food. Avertised room rates are $300+. However, business negotiated rates go down to about 75% of advertised rates, so look around or call and ask for a better price.

Location: This is a perfect location if you're doing business in Dar, but if you're looking for tourism, you may want to stay in a different part of town.

I've seem much less expensive hotels with the same number of stars as this hotel, but I've never experiences such excellent service anywhere else. If you just need a place to sleep for a night, you might be able to find a better value. But if you're staying for a few nights, you should at least call to see if they'll fit your budget. You won't regret a stay here.

Room Tip: Almost all rooms look the same on the inside. Sea [Port] View is nice but not necessary. I've ne...

We were met as arranged at the airport and driven through the busy traffic to the hotel by George. Check-in was smooth and efficient. Our room, 406, had lovely views of the harbour and port.

It was a spacious room, with twin beds, desk and a day bed by the window. The bathroom had a separate toilet, shower and in the main area, the sink and a free standing bath. Best of all, the room was very quiet at night.

The hotel has a great location, on the harbour front and although there was road construction, it was easy to take a stroll to the fish market and the downtown financial area.

We enjoyed the cocktails at the terrace bar on the eighth floor, the pool was relaxing and breakfast at the Palm Restaurant had a good selection of hot and cold dishes.

Check out was a little slow as there was confusion as to whether our prepaid booking had actually had the payment processed. Also, allow an hour for check-in at the small domestic airport.

Recommend as a great central hotel in Dar Es Salaam.

Have stayed here on a few ocassions for business, excellent hotel, good breakfasts, attentative staff. Rooms lovely, especially if you can get the ones facing the port. Lovel to sit on the top, just watching the coming & goings of the port & the ferry. Beautiful restaurant, Asian food excellent.

Room Tip: rooms with view of the port

Out of all the upmarket hotels Iv stayed in in DES,the Hyatt is the best of the lot. Beats the Serena, New Africa and Hilton.

The rooms are very spacious, with satellite TV, old-style bath tub and shower, something the serena doesnt have.

wifi is free and fast

the executive lounge on floor 6 is an oasis, with enough free food & drinks during lunch and dinner time to avoid having to go out for either.

Great pool & view.

There is a public bus lane being built in front of the hotel, so it tends to get very noisy and dusty sometimes, The construction will take months.

Breakfast is the best in the DAR hotels Iv stayed at.

Beware though the cab company they use (Choice) is a RIP OFF ($55+ to airport). Dont book through the hotel and these cabs. Get an outside company, or just walk onto the street and hail a cab ($20 to airport). There are plenty.

Room Tip: Sea View in hotel front is better. Back of hotel faces a parking lot.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. It is feedback such as yours, that helps motivate the entire team to strive towards excellence.

I do agree there is a price difference between the city cabs and the company that the hotel uses. In our defense however I must mention that the drivers from the fleet are vetted and a full background check done on each employee additionally all vehicles and occupants have insurance cover in case of any untoward incident. I do believe also that the city cabs are a bit harder to find if you have to leave for the airport between 1 am to 6 am.

Your compliments have been shared with our team for whom it has been a tremendous source of inspiration. We look forward to the pleasure of your continued visits and assure you of our best services at all times.

Thank you.

This is an excellent place to stay. It has a great position overlooking the port of Dar es Salaam. In front of it there is a pool which was plenty big enough to swim lengths and was spotlessly clean. My room was modern, stylish and very comfortable. The view from the room was great. The staff at reception were particularly helpful and efficient. We dined in the informal buffet style restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised by the range and quality of the food - way better than I have experienced in equivalent places in African hotels. The hotel taxi service is also to be recommended.
