the sea view wasnt want kind of sea view that i was expecting; from my bedroom window i could see the garden with some trees, the sea view was quite away and we paid an extra money for that so that we can see the seaview properly. The service was excellent, the lounge was right by the sea and that made the place soo relaxing with your food and drink.

We spent one night at the hotel prior to meeting our safari tour group. Clean, quiet, beautiful location on the ocean. Had breakfast before departing - simple but adequate.

Mediterraneo is an above-average value in Dar es Salaam, where good rooms don't come cheap. It's located in Kawe Beach about 30 kilometers out of town. The restaurant, the view of the water and the rooms are all truly lovely. The hot water (and water pressure) in our garden room was among the best we had during our three-week stay in Tanzania.

The only glitch is not the hotel's fault. We stayed at Mediterraneo for one night--our last night in Tanzania. We arrived on an evening bus right at rush hour. It took us more than an hour in stop-and-go traffic to make the journey to the hotel. The congestion was truly horrendous, especially once we reached the beach area (just past the US Embassy).

If you are going to stay in Dar for one night only, I wouldn't recommend the Mediterraneo--it is too nice a place for a stay of less than 24 hours and too long of a journey (given the traffic) to make it worth your while.

However, if you are planning to stay for a few days, then Mediterraneo would be a great choice, especially if you are not much interested in the downtown bustle of Dar. It is a peaceful and beautiful setting (especially the beachside restaurant and lounge).

We spent two days and two nights there to unwind before we went on a very tiring mission trip in Tanzania, this place is FANTASTIC!!!! the food is GREAT and you just can not beat the beautiful rooms, beach etc... we then stayed there again on our last evening in Tanzania before we got on a plane to return to Ohio.... WE WILL be doing this again at the end of June 2010 because we loved the place so much in 2008.

This is a beatiful and very cozy Hotel. We stayed there for 2 nights in January and compared to the hotels we stayed at on Zanzibar, this one offered much more of everything. The restaurant at the hotel was the best food we got on our vacation and we went to many different places. The staff is warm and friendly and the only minus was their driver who picked us up in the airport. He tried to overcharge us and stole our lighter :-) The rooms are nice and big and the whole place in filled with flowers, trees and bushes.

Very nice hotel

Hello travellers,
I have staied at Mediterraneo with my wife in 2004, and we recently returned in May 2009.
It is amazing to see how much this place has developed in few years.
What makes this hotel unique is the combination of food, ambiance, and the good feeling you can find in this place.
The staff of the hotel is very gentle, and always ready to help you.
The room was clean, spacious with a/c, satellite tv. The design of the room has a very charming atmosphere.
We can only say “ Thank you Mediterraneo for the nice experience again “

This hotel has a great seaside lounge, good food, and a beautiful garden. Its a nice place to chill out. However we were disappointed with the accommodation. We paid 30USD more for a seaside room when you couldn't even see it! It overlooked a pathway and the pool, which is false advertising. Every night at 2am our air conditioner stopped pumping cool air until 6am when it would start again, presumably as a cost-saving measure. The temperature in the room was unbearable and we barely slept because there wasn't a fan in the room either. No one seemed to know what we were talking about which was very frustrating. They will arrange for a boat trip to Bongoyo island and marine park reserve, which is highly recommended. They prepare fresh fish and have cold beer with huts to lounge in. That was the highlight of our trip. I'm not sure I would go back because we were exhausted from lack of sleep when we left, but I would go back for dinner and a drink.
