I first stayed here in the late 70's when it was still the Railway Hotel. Then it was enlarged to match Dodoma's new status by Architect William Feruzi who used Seronera Lodge in the Serengeti for inspiration. In a quirky way, this works as Dodoma still feels like what John Buchan would call a "one horse dorp".
The hotel has no grand aspirations and the management keep to a price level that Tanzaina's policy makers feel comfortable with so don't expect recent room renovations.
That said you can expect a tasty meal and there is even an in house Chinese restaurant when you are done chatting with the movers and shakers at the bar.

Room Tip: Choose a room on an upper floor away from the railway line and the street. The train arrives from Dar es Salaam noisily in the middle of night.

Comfortable and clean rooms, great choice of food from the Indian restaurant, very friendly and helpful staff. The beautiful interior courtyard manages to be a hive of activity at the weekends but remain tranquil at the same time.

A very nice place for business issues and conferences. clean rooms, room services and simple accommodation arrangements procedures.
They have sizable conference rooms (6), full equipped gym, steam bath, unisex saloon and a nice swimming pool.
Some people come there during weekends for lunch (chinese restaurant and common restaurants) and for swimming (pupils from nearby schools).
Generally it is a nice place.

Room Tip: rooms on the Top most floor are quiter

The hotel imbibes the character of the city of Dodoma in more ways than one . A Relaxed ,Friendly & welcoming character with its courteous staff and a general feeling of being busy but doing nothing in particular. :-)
A well maintained establishment with a good sized courtyard adjacent to a pool that allows for some laid back time over a beer . Relatively small but well kept rooms with a remarkably efficient room service to boot .The bathroom does need a facelift though and the hot/cold settings in the shower had gone astray leading to some 'Rude awakenings' .
The food served in the restaurant was delicious and I do recommend the 'Dal Fry' & 'Paneer Khurchan' in particular for lunch or dinner .However if you have special requests for food , ensure that the waiter notes it down properly or else there is a chance they may miss conveying the same to the chef , which happened twice in my case . I ordered a dish without green chillies on two occasions and on both occasions I was given with the green chillies instead .
The gym is well equipped but somewhat disorganised and I could find leftover gym towels from the previous day heaped onto a bench at the entrance alongwith fresh ones . There is no instructor for the morning sessions and its mostly self service right from unlocking the gym for your morning workout.
For a place like Dodoma , this hotel is a good option to stay for either business or pleasure .

Recently, I attended a conference in Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania and most of our activities centred around the New Dodoma Hotel. Strategically located across the street from the almost defunct train station, the exterior seems a bit shabby and you are faced with a myriad parked cars before you get to the entrance steps...but once past the front door, the hotel opens up into a very relaxed courtyard surrounded by rooms on two floors. In the courtyard there are lots of tables and chairs to enjoy sitting, drinking a beer and enjoying quiet conversations with colleagues. Adjacent are the meeting rooms, restaurants (the chinese restaurant is quite good), hair salon (men and women) and of course an old english bar.....
the decor is decidedly afro/colonial and could really do with a good clearout of junky chandeliers and adornments on the walls, but it all adds to the "charm" that is this hotel...
The food service was all buffet and started with a huge breakfast buffet, with eggs, sausage, fruit, juices, cereals and more...all the meals we had were more than adequate and quite unique in some of the dishes served...good food, no doubt about it.
The rooms are somewhat tired and need a good overhaul, but clean and comfortable and reliable. The staff are a mix of gracious enthusiasm to a sense of "why are you bothering me" which unfortunately detracts from this otherwise nice hotel to visit and stay in.

Room Tip: second floor keeps the noise away from the activities in the courtyard and also allows for a breeze if you dont use the AC
