“Listen to them Roar”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Lemala Ewanjan is the perfect camp for safari end. This small intimate property sits on the plain in the middle of nowhere. The only near neighbors are wild. The first night of three that we stayed there I fell asleep to the quiet sounds of lions huffing. Lions huffed and hyenas called to their pack mates and my dreams were filled with lions and zebras. I understood why our tent steward had told us to never unzip the flap until morning. I was not surprised to find lion tracks in camp on our way to breakfast.
We did not suffer in our tent at night, although photos don't seem to do them justice, the tents are pure luxury. They are twice the size of most tents, the beds are queen size, a writing desk, easy chair, bedside tables, steamer trunk, open closet and shelves leave enough room to dance. The bathrooms are huge and the "talking shower" is fun.
Our second day at Ewanjan was even better than the first, although the migration had split up into herds of thousands instead of one and a half million as usual, we had no trouble finding a herd of wildebeest numbering in the thousands. When we reached camp at the end of the day I couldn't wait to get into my nice warm shower and wash the dust out of my hair.
Dinner that evening was delightful. The meal was delicious and the travelers at Ewanjan were very interesting, isn't that the best part of staying at a small exciting place.
That night I again fell asleep to the huffing of lions, they sounded so very close but we were safely tucked into our beds with our hot water bottles. It must have been about 2:00 A.M. that the roaring started. The lions were in camp again roaring and roaring all night. Everyone was talking about the lions at breakfast and no one knew when exactly the roaring stopped because like me, feeling safe and warm, they had all gone back to sleep.
I truly can't wait to go back. Next year? Perhaps.

So this was the "roughest" of our accomodations during our safari vacation and it was just lovely. Staff are really good and helpful. The tent is truly a tent but so large there were two double beds, a study table, bathroom area was spacious. "Bush TV" was really great, everyone gathered for evening drinks and chat about what we saw because we often saw different things! Exchanging tips and stories. Food was good (although variety a little less so but given we were in the middle of the wild was seriously good food). Everyone eats together which makes for great conversations that go round. And yet they have everything. And they do laundry for free. There is no wifi. In fact they have a telephone tree.. meaning that's where there's even Telco reception. The staff made a makeshift shelf for their phones there. And to charge all your devices, you have to go to the main tent area. And despite what they say, I won't leave my stuff charging overnight cause it's not like someone is watching it for you. Plug it in when you go for drinks and bush TV, by the end of dinner most things are charged. And there are LOTs of charging points so no one was every deprived.

thank you so much for your lovely review. We appreciate very much you taking the time to share your experiences with fellow travellers.

Our Bush tv is a fabulous way to get to meet other travellers and exchange stories and I am so glad that you enjoyed that too. I did notice about the wifi and whilst it wasn't available when you were in camp it is now available albeit in the main areas only.

So thank you once again for your review and look forward to hosting you again.

Warm regards

Words can't describe how much I enjoyed staying at Lemala. For a start, the location! You can't beat opening the door of the tent and having your morning coffee looking out at the plains of the Serengeti. Simply magnificent. The staff are exceptional, greetings and cold towels and drinks on arrival, personal (early) wake up calls for morning game drives, they bring your morning coffee to your bedside if you wish. "Steve" the Masai walks escorts you to you tent and the other staff couldn't be more obliging. The tents are nothing but spacious and comfortable, nicely decorated with a lovely ambiance. We loved the "talking shower"! The staff pour hot water by hand from the outside of the tent and always have a chat to make sure it's just right! The 3 course meals were fabulous and free alcohol was a pleasant surprise. You do have the meals in a group so if you prefer not to be social, perhaps this place is not for you but on the plus side you get to meet some lovely people and swap safari stories! Gathering around the camp fire at night with millions of stars overhead was just magical. And free wifi? In the Serengeti? Seriously, I couldn't ask for more. Stay at Lemala !

I have joined gate 1 small group discovery tour and stayed in this tent (hotel) for 3 days, the experience was beyond my expectation. The food was better than the hotels we stayed in Arusha and Tanrangire, the service was impeccable, the "talking showers",flushing toilet were wonderful, they even do your laundry (3 pieces clothing per person)! All drinks are inclusive too!
I definitely rate this as the best trip of my life, so far. I cannot imagine to travel Africa in the wilderness with this kind of comfort, especially in a tent with a king size soft bed,hot showers, washing basin and flush toilet.

My brother, mom and I had an excellent stay last week at this "camp" It is an absolutely beautiful setting and the tents are large and comfortable. Joseph, the cook, made delicious meals and it was one of our favorite lunch boxes of the whole trip. We were able to see the sunrise from our tent with fresh coffee every morning and it was a fantastic end to our trip. A special thanks to our tent helper, Praygood, as well as Barnaba, Justin and Goodwin for being friendly and helpful hosts. Thank you!

My husband and 3 kids (14, 17, 20) stayed here 3 nights. By far our favorite place we stayed on our safari. The staff was very friendly & attentive. The "tent" was amazing. We loved being our wake-up greeting and coffee delivered to our tent. The showers were the best we had during our 17 nights in Africa. The food exceptional. The campfire at night was wonderful. A great way to meet and visit with others staying at Lemala. We LOVED staying here.

Thank you SO MUCH for a truly delightful review and to be considered your favourite place you and the family stayed on the trip is really an honour. I am delighted you had a wonderful time and that the family enjoyed it too and that our 'talking showers' were so well appreciated as was the camp fire often referred to as bush tv.

The team loved reading your comments so thank you once again for sharing.

Warm regards
