A lovely location, on the banks of river inlets on a dam of the Seruwi River near Selous, about an hour out of Harare on the Bulawayo road. Individual cottages overlooking the water, serene location with birds and insects to watch. Set in a larger game park, large mammals but no carnivores officially BUT stop press at least one leopard has moved into the park, so that's great. There ands the positives unfortunately. Price: $169 pppn, dinner, bed and breakfast, whether you're local or from overseas. Ouch! Fixtures and fittings looked tired, kettle didn't work, solar heating didn't work, geyser didn't work, got moved to anew room where shower mixer didn't work so had choice of scalding or freezing water. At this point, gave up and went for dinner. Food was appalling (for a place billed as a four-star lodge). Greasy cold chips. Greasy fish. Salad was overdressed iceberg lettuce. Starter supposed to be bruschetta, but turned out to be lightly toasted stale bread with tinned asparagus on top with some thai sweet chilli sauce on it (what? why???). Sent it back. Main course veggies were cold, more greasy fish, worst pepper sauce ever seen, looked like sick. Sent it back. Couldn't even bring ourselves to find out what desert was! Very disappointing, just not good enough for that kind of price. Unfortunately there are resorts all over Zimbabwe like it, charging through the nose but not meeting international standards. Just be honest with yourselves, guys, admit you can't provide a service to match that price and bring your prices down to a fair and reasonable level and don't pretend to be something you're not. Service was OK but the waiter's English wasn't good enough to enquire about dishes, and the main chef was away catering for a wedding. All in all, a big let down because it looked so lovely on the website. Will do self-catering at a National Parks lodge next time, at least you know what to expect - basic, clean cottage and self catering! Shame.
