“A unique and Spectacular experience”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 via mobile

I doubt there are many other hotels in the world of this size that can offer such a spectacular animal viewing experience as this hotel. The structure of the hotel, with tiered flooring is perfectly laid out to view the game in the water hole below, like an animal amphitheatre. Initially didn't expect much action at the water hole, but with each hour the animals kept coming. I've seen less animals driving in Game Reserves.

Food was excellent. Staff were very friendly and were of great assistance booking the various activities on offer. If I was to be asked to nominate a place to stay for someone who only had one day and night to spare in Southern Africa it would be this place

This lodge is truly wonderful. The rooms were excellent and clearly refurbished recently. Great restaurant and bar where we spent each afternoon overlooking the animal life at watering hole and watching the sunset. The Mosquitos were not as bad as we thought they might be and the beds seemed to all have nets around them. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

Would highly recommend this place! We spent 3 nights & wish we stayed longer! Decks, pool & rooms overlooked the watering hole were we could sit & watch the animal over breakfast or with cocktails watching the amazing sunsets! Great thatched roof ,open beamed design with great food & service!! Free shuttles into town were great benefit!

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the waterhole where the animals come. Loved having tea from our deck!!

We were on a tour of Southern Africa with Gate1 and this was our favorite hotel. We spent two nights at this unique hotel. First of all, all the rooms have been renovated with free unlimited wifi (rare). We were in a standard room. While small and lacking an alarm clock (not unusual for Africa-pack a travel clock) and television (a blessing in disguise), the rooms had large showers and imported toiletries. However the selling point of this hotel is the watering hole backdrop. If you ask for a room facing the watering hole, you can see the big five (buffalo, elephants, leopards, lions, and rhinos) but make sure to keep your doors locked for baboons. Breakfast was great (the pancake station was particularly enjoyable) and the view from the restaurant/bar area overlooking the watering hole is unbelievable. After touring during the day we would relax in the outdoor seating area and just watch animals. The bar food is overpriced, but so is the rest of Zimbabwe :). At the end of your stay, make sure you look over your bill clearly because sometimes reception makes mistakes. Overall, this hotel was a wonderful end to our African adventure.

Room Tip: Room facing water hole

We spent 2 nights at the lodge. Our balcony and bedroom window overlooked the watering hole. We saw baboons, kudu, impalas, buffalo and of course the vultures. It was nice the lodge had a shuttle to take us to Victoria Falls. We were dropped off right at the entrance. What a sight to see. We also did the helicopter ride over the falls, definitely worth doing. You get to see the falls from an entirely different perspective. The lodge facilities were beautiful as was our room. Would definitely recommend this lodge.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a renovated room, they are very nice.

When I first read that the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is situated above a water whole, I thought I would see some impalas and some birds. Boy was I ever wrong.

At dinner time we had more than 20 elephants coming down to quench their thirst. An elephant mum and her baby made their way through the trees all the way up to the pool deck where a group of us were admiring them until one in their group roared and they made their move. The following morning I could see more than 40 buffaloes down there - from my bed!

I stayed in a deluxe room for three nights and it was a delight. A big, comfortable bed looked like it was made for a princess at night with the generous mosquito nets falling down to the floor. Beautiful decor, a spacious bathroom with all amenities including robes and fresh towels and then the balcony overlooking the water whole.

The meals I had both in the restaurant and the buffalo bar were all tasty and service was friendly and attentive. Throughout my stay I was greeted with a smiling and helpful staff that made me feel welcome in a personal way.

The Safari lodge runs a shuttle every hour to town and the falls. It's free of charge and very convenient.

Wifi works very well around the premises, including the rooms, complimentary as well. Kudos for the two USB plugs! They were placed next to three other plugs (European, South African and UK) making charging appliances a child's game.

If you plan to come to the Victoria Falls, I would highly recommend the safari lodge - you won't regret it.

We had just left South Africa after being on safari game drives twice daily and were not quite ready to leave that fun and excitement. So this ended up being just perfect as we still got to view animals at the water hole. Each night around sunset, you definitely see elephants and impala and buffalo coming to drink. It is a beautiful setting. Rooms were just updated and remodeled and were nice and comfortable. Turn down service includes mosquito nets being pulled down, but we did not experience any mosquitoes. View from deck of room also gave you views of water hole and some animals, lots of birds. Food was great - service was always friendly in all parts of hotel. Falls are very close so just a short drive -we took a tour but there is a shuttle.

Voted the best Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe for 20 years running, the world-famous Victoria Falls Safari Lodge offers easy access to the iconic Victoria Falls, coupled with a wildlife experience that is truly unrivalled. Now in its 22nd year of welcoming guests, the Lodge is built on a plateau overlooking the Zambezi National Park with endless unspoilt views to the horizon, just four kilometers from the Falls. This is the only sunset facing hotel in Victoria Falls, and the newly-renovated rooms and balconies are built up above a central waterhole which attracts herds of buffalo, elephant, giraffe, zebra, as well as night-time predators, such as lion and leopard. Our warm and personable staff are our greatest pride. Past guests frequently comment on our team's sublime hospitality and seamless delivery. The main areas of the lodge, such as the MaKuwa-Kuwa restaurant and the homely Buffalo Bar, are rich in ambience and also overlook the central waterhole, where drinks and dinners are often shared with wildlife meandering down to the water each day to quench their thirst. ... more   less
