A'Zambezi River Lodge was a pleaseant surprise. With the check-in and dining areas open air, I was concerned this would be a less than desirable stay. The Rfid Chip card for a room key was the first hint this would not be the case. The room (all hotel rooms have been given a prime makeover) had the modern immenities of a Disney hotel. The bathroom had both a roomy glassed in shower and whirlpool tub with a sliding wall that allowed you to watch TV from the bath. The closet and storage space was plentiful, and the king bed was comfortable and surrounded with netting if you wanted to sleep with the screen door open. Air Conditioning is controlled by remote control (better than Disney!) so you can lay in bed and adjust the temperature. Wi-Fi completed the comfort here.
They also have their own set of docks, from which we enjoyed the sunset river cruise where we saw a crockodile, hippos splashing about, and as the sun set, an elephant crossed the river from Zambia to Zimbabwe (without passport).
While not quite walking distance to the falls, this is a prime and comfortable station to venture from for safari's (Hwange or Chobe), the falls or a boma dinner with native performances.More
