Staying at the Ilala was a perfect way to end our 3 weeks in southern Africa. It is small and intimate, beautiful rooms. My room was on the lawn and every evening a family of warthogs came to graze right outside the door. Victoria Falls was only a 15 minute walk and shopping was within 5 minutes. There is a service on the property to help with reserving tours and confirming flights which is very nice. The hotel restaurant is very good - we ate all of our meals there - and the pool is a great place to relax. You can see the mist and hear the roar of the Falls from the patio.

This is truly a charming hotel with great service, a wonderful restaurant and ideal location for shopping and exploring the area. Great shopping at the Elephant Market is literally right behind the hotel, ask the front desk to have someone escort you there and you'll by-pass the hoards of guys selling the now defunct Zim Dollars. In less than 10 minutes you can walk to the Falls -- you can see the "smoke" from the restaurant and pool area.
The general manager, front desk personnel and restaurant staff were all very friendly and helpful -- answering what I am sure seemed like endless questions from us.
There are very few restaurants in Vic Falls and the Palm is one of the area's best. Plan on having dinner there at least one night.
Breakfast is included and it's very nice and quiet expansive.
The Ilala Lodge is MUCH smaller and less pretentious than the Vic Falls Hotel (which is also very nice and has great restaurants). The two hotels are close to each other (walkable), but are VERY different. We loved the comfort of the Ilala Lodge and would absolutely stay there again - and just as we did this time -- we'd hop over to the Vic Falls Hotel for dinner one night. :)

Room Tip: Try to avoid room 24 which is a ground floor corner room adjacent to the back of the hotel. We had a steady stream employees waking past our window. Our friends were in room 28 a floor above us and on the other side of hotel, they had a steady stream of warthogs! :)

This hotel I can fully recommend: The rooms are clean, spacious and have a nice quiet balcony to relax on. The hotel has a very nice garden and you can see the mist of the Victoria Falls from the terasse. The Victoria Falls themselves are a ten minute walk away, so the location is optimal for a visit of the Zimbabwe part of the Falls. The restaurant is excellent - Go there for dinner!!!
Minor points are: You have a lot of insects in the rooms due to the roof and the pool is relatively small.

Room Tip: Each room is equipped so that three people can stay in a room

We stayed here or 3 nights as the highlight of our new year trip. The hotel was beautiful and our room opened on to the large gardens. The pool was very warm and was very enjoyable. The rooms were nice and stylish. The hotel was only a short walk from the bank, the post office, the market, and most importantly the falls!.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms opening to the gardens.
