“Fabulous stay at unique hotel”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

We stayed at this unique hotel during our visit to Victoria Falls. It was fabulous! The cottages were beautifully appointed, the service was excellent and staying in the bush was extraordinary. We sat on the terrace overlooking the watering hole and watched Cape Buffalo lounging right in front of us. The receptionist, Moline, was extremely helpful with so many things. They offer wifi and I had trouble staying connected with my IPad. She repeatedly came to my cottage and fixed my problems, always with a smile and determination to make it right. She was also very helpful with recommendations of activities in the area. We loved our experiences there and highly recommend this hotel. It was memorable in every way.

We have been there in january, in a group of 18 loud and happy brazilian people. The rooms were huge, well decorated, with a fancy bathroom and a small living room. It was always very clean aand tidy.
The restaurant was great, we loved the food. Felix, the waiter in charge of the restaurant, took all our orders perfectly and had a great patient with our big group, we had 10 kids!
I have to talk about Moline, the Guest Services manager.. She was like a mother for us all!! All our wishes came true in her hand, she took very good care of us, our tours, our schedules and all our questions! It was the best hotel service I had in Africa, thank you Moline, Felix, and all staff!

Our two day stay was very relaxing and very quite as we were the only couple there. Twenty eight people left the day we arrived and twenty six were arriving on the day we left. The main advantage of this "hotel" is that you don't have to leave the grounds to see any game. You could spend your time watching the animals come down to the waterhole which is overlooked by the main building or even watch them from the veranda of your room. The service and the food was very good, which it should have been as it is not a cheap place to stay. The only thing that let the place down was the rather "run down" bathroom, which had wood-rot in the door frame, a crack in the toilet bowl, mold in the shower, the basin tap was loose and stains on the bench top. The shower head was also in need of replacement. These things we might have overlooked in a cheaper hotel but at US$600 a night, we expected better.

Room Tip: The closer your room is to the main building, the closer you are to the waterhole.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on TripAdvisor, following your visit to The Stanley and Livingstone at Victoria Falls. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay overall and would like to assure you that we are working on the room maintenance issues.

What we find concerning about your feedback is the rate you paid, as our Rack Rates are US$ 245.00 per person per night sharing (Bed and Breakfast). We would like to understand how you came to pay US$ 600-00 per night so that we may rectify this discrepancy.

Kindest Regards

this beautiful lodge was our first stop on our African journey. Unfortunately , we had a very difficult trip over, and were thrilled at our first walk outside on the lodge patio. there in front of us was the breath taking sight of animals at the water hole that is just yards away. every time you walked out of your beautifully appointed cottage, it was to a surprise. baboons, Kudu, Buffalo, elephants, giraffe, zebras, Impalas..and more visited the water hole, and the setting was so peaceful. the grounds are well kept, the pool overlooks the water hole, and we were so happy with the rooms. We had no problem with Mosquitos luckily.
the breakfasts were the best meals. I did not think the food was the best of our trip, but it was good, and since wine was include with our package, I wasn't aware of the prices.
for a lovely, picturesque stay , close to Vic Falls, with very good service, The Stanley and Livingstone is a great choice.

Room Tip: Were all lovely overlooking water hole.

The property of the Stanley and Livingstone Lodge is located a short drive from the huge spectacle of Victoria Falls, making you captive to the site, but WHAT a site! A large watering hole at the bottom of the landscaped grounds gives way to fields and shrubs, attracting elephants, giraffes, eland, baboons, and Cape buffalo mornings and sunsets; while dining or enjoying (expensive) drinks on the terrace the best of Southern Africa unfolds before you. Each room is a large suite decorated in English country style, greens, yellows and cream, and the huge bathrooms are outfitted with shower and claw footed tubs. While the property is extensive there are less than 20 rooms available so there is never a feeling of hoards of people massing about the paths, the pool or the bar. We were there for 4 nights and did not experience any "boring" menus or repeat offerings and the breakfasts as other reviewers mentioned were wonderful. We had game drives and an elephant ride experience on the land surrounding the hotel, in fact the jeeps drove up to the out back fencing and we hopped on just yards from our room! All in all, magical and a "once in a lifetime" experience.

Room Tip: Our suite, # 2, was in a wonderful location on the property, as from the terrace we had an unobstruc...

This was our first trip to Zimbabwe and we were a bit nervous about the political situation in the country. The Fodor's guide book we bought not only didn't recommend any hotels in Zimbabwe but suggested that few travelers even consider landing at their Victoria Falls Airport. We would have stayed in Zambia if they didn't require a Yellow Fever Vaccine to get back into South Africa (we flew home to the U.S. out of Jo'berg). Our physician recommended avoiding the vaccination, if possible, so we decided to take a chance and stay in Zimbabwe. The Stanley and Livingstone hotel was lovely - an oasis really. It is about 15-20 minutes from the town of Victoria Falls so it is close enough to get to the Falls and other activities but far enough away that you benefit from it being quite as well as bustling with various animals daily at the waterhole the patio and rooms overlook. It wasn’t uncommon to see giraffe, buffalo, wild dogs, etc. as you were eating a delicious breakfast or lunch. In addition, the safe feeling of the gated hotel with security was very comforting. The rooms were very nicely decorated in an "old English" style as was the hotel so you could easily imagine Stanley and Livingstone having lived/stayed in similar style. The food was very good but the wine list was extremely expensive. I do understand that they can only access so much in the way of provisions so we simply stuck with wines by the glass which were the only reasonable option. If I had one suggestion for the hotel, I'd suggest either mosquito netting or better insulation around the doors. The windows in every room had screens, which was a pleasant surprise and very much appreciated when trying to keep mosquitoes out of the room. If only the doors had better insulation around them, we wouldn’t have had several mosquitos sneaking in every night. This is the only reason I rated "sleep quality" as poor because of the buzzing mosquitoes that snuck in every night. Insulation would be a cheap fix and probably save the hotel in air conditioning costs since some a/c must be getting lost due to the gaps around the door. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay immensely. The staff was excellent and very accommodating. If you're going to stay in Zimbabwe, this hotel is clearly the best choice!

Enjoyed our stay at this " historical" hotel. Hotel was built 11 years ago to replicate old English style. The suites are very large and well appointed. The view is spectacular, over looking a private game reserve. We saw cape buffalo, zebras, kudus, impalas, elephants, warthogs, baboons, eland and painted dogs. My husband actually witnessed the dogs hunt and kill a kudu. Wine is overpriced.
