Owner description: "The smoke that thunders" is a local name for Africa's most famous waterfall thundering over a 100m-high cliff.
Reviewed 19 June 2014

If you go during the high water season (April to June), then you won't see much because there will be so much mist and you will get soaked (rent a poncho from the vendors outside). Conversely during the dry season you won't get the magnificent power of the water (November onward).

If you've seen Niagara Falls and Iguazu Falls, then you may be disappointed. But it's still in a lovely, natural setting. The view is mostly on the Zimbabwe side.

The restaurant inside is quite good!

Really enjoyed our visits there. There are two hotels right by the falls on the Zambia side. Stayed in both and they were both good. The Royal Livingstone Hotel is of higher quality but value for money, that and the Zambezi Sun were both good. The actual falls are great but to get the real perspective of just what they are like, a fly over is really worthwhile. Found a minimum three day stay, preferably four is required as there is plenty to do around there.

The Falls were just spectacular! As we wandered down the path we saw rainbows and were sprayed with mist. Don't miss this!

Falls were in full flow - the smoke that thunders is right. We did the walk along the falls and got so drenched; couldn't really see the falls at all through all the water. Was a great thing to do.
