“Zimm's hidden gem”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

We're so glad that we chose Imbabala to guide us through Zimbabwe.
Impala is located around 70km from Victoria Falls, just by the border of Botswana, making it perfect for day trips to Chobe and being right in the thick of game territory.
The lodge itself has uninterrupted views of the Zambezi which makes drinks taste better and the sunsets nothing short of spectacular.
The room (honeymoon suite especially) has all the amenities that you'd like to come home to - deep bathtub, outdoor shower, comfortable bed and a relaxing deck to soak in the surroundings.
Game drives around the lodge were a little hit and miss, however cruising down the Zambezi was always fantastic and game rich. We had encounters with elephant, hippos, crocodile, giraffe and of course many warthog and impala.
We must send our regards to the fill-in manager who rushed us to the speedboat when elephants were crossing the Zambezi directly in front of the lodge - you really just had to be there.
The staff, Stan, Richard our guides, Himmel the manager and Jeffery our chef were the kindest people and truly made our stay more memorable.
Choose Imbabala, I know you won't be disappointed.

We had a lovely friendly welcome. All the staff were outstanding and could not do enough for us. The game drives and river cruise with Abraham were highlights and the food perfect. Shame we could not stay longer. Thanks Annie, Brad and staff.

Room Tip: All rooms are great as they all face the Zambezi River. Great views from the balconies.

The game is absolutely phenomenal at Imbabala, we were lucky enough to see a Leopard on the property and it caught a baby warthog right in front of the vehicle! Truly an amazing experience! Richard is one in a million guide, his extensive knowledge of the bush, animals and birds is phenomenal, he is such an asset to Imbabala and is so wonderful with the guests. The lodge is great with the location being out of this world, the views from the lodge of the river is breathtaking, we had elephants come visit us at the lodge, which was a serious bonus too. The food is good. The activities, Cruise, game drives and night drives are brilliant, I would rather do this than go into Chobe. We went to Vic Falls town to visit the Falls, very dry towards the Zambian side but still absolutely amazing! Overall a fantastic experience and my mom had the most memorable birthday ever. Thank you to Himal, Richard and all the very willing and friendly staff at Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge for making this a once in a lifetime!

Brad and Annie - we were so sorry to have missed you as you were away during our stay from 2nd to 6th September 2013 - however, your staff were absolutely fantastic - Hemel, Richard and Stan are such assets - Hemel went out of his way to assist us in every way even to smiling when we mislaid our keys for a third time!! He is a charming young guy - Richard kept us in stitches - what a sense of humour! he certainly knows his stuff too - taught us a lot in the time we were there. We loved the evening cruises in particular and the dinners under the starlight were fantastic. You have an incredible kitchen staff who rustle up the most interesting and tasty meals - it was Chris' birthday and they were even kind enough to bake a cake for him - we were very impressed. The accommodation was lovely and the impala on the lawn at night was a very soothing sound as were the hippo in the river below! "Bush music" we believe! Having everyone mix at mealtimes under the tree is a great idea and we made some wonderful friends whom we will definitely keep in touch with. Thank you Hemel, Richard and Stan - we wont forget the experience

The stay at Imbabala was first class from start to finish. The management and staff went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. They adjusted schedules based on what was happening with the game in the area. Dining outside overlooking the Zambezi river was wonderful.

The accommodations were what I expected. The staff was quite helpful and friendly. Our guide, Jefferson, went out of his way to give us a truly wonderful safari experience. The food was excellent. The pool was quite refreshing in the afternoon. A great place to stay.

Born in Zimbabwe with a father who is a professional photographer and ornithologist, I asked him where he would recommend staying when my partner and I visited Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Without hesitation he said Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge. I contacted Wild Horizons who were very helpful with the bookings. We agreed a timetable of 'activities'. However, on arrival at Victoria Falls the original plans had changed without an offer of an alternative which was disappointing. However, upon arrival at Imbabala the manager of the Lodge immediately set to re-arranging our schedule so that the activity could be included. Once that was out of the way ... Martin and I were shown to a beautiful lodge which was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We both enjoyed the outdoor shower after the baking heat and loved the daily activities of game drive and boat cruise. All staff were courteous, friendly and only too willing to assist, educate and entertain us. Our guide, Stan, was a minefield of information on our guided tours and his sense of humour made sure our time spent at Imbabala was truly memorable. We both enjoyed eating meals out under the trees or stars and the conversations with other guests. One thing we did learn from our stay is that one really needs to spend 3 nights and 3 full days at the Lodge to participate in game drives, boat cruises, going to Chobe and to see the Falls comfortably.

Room Tip: All the lodges are comfortable and not too close to each other so there is a great deal of privacy.
