There is lots of smoking in the hotel, and never got a definitive answer whether the rooms are non-smoking. There was certainly no signage to that effect and I thought I could detect, faintly, lingering smoke odor in my room.
Ah, service does lack. When I checked in, I asked when the breakfast service started and was told at 0600. Sure enough, the next morning I go down at 0600 and am told, "no, we open at 0630". Really folks, 100 feet apart and you can't communicate something as simple as that? (Waite for it -- at 0630 on Saturday, I find out that on weekends, they open at 0700!) But then, I'd rate my entire service experience at the hotel on par with this incident. I had a soaking wet towel and asked a passing maid if I could exchange it for a dry one. The answer was a firm shake of the head and the word "no".
The room is indeed nice -- spacious, well appointed, nice safe (big enough for a laptop p/c), coffee service, comfy chairs, spacious bathroom, though it is shower only, and there was no box of tissues. The A/C is noisy, though -- white noise, not a rattle.
Beware the shower -- it will leak water all over the floor no matter what one does -- even after being turned off.
I am an old geezer and it took a while for me to be able to sort out how the TV works. They do have BBC World News, though (bravo ES!).
Cost to launder a man's shirt/skivvies/sox: $11/5/5. Can't comment on the quality -- didn't avail myself of the service.
Wi-Fi worked steadily but was hardly blazing. Downloading an e-edition newspaper took 15 minutes; at other places, it usually takes less than one minute.
I was happy enough with the restaurants' food; service varied directly with the status of the establishment. The top of the line Italian place was great -- until they seated a businessman right next to me (in an otherwise virtually empty room), who began yammering away non-stop on his cell phone. Though the restaurant is advertised as cell phone free, management made no effort to remind him. Grrrrr.
I have stayed at the Tropico, and have friends at the new Skyna, and will say that for all its defects, the Epic Sana is the place to stay if you can afford it.
