There is lots of smoking in the hotel, and never got a definitive answer whether the rooms are non-smoking. There was certainly no signage to that effect and I thought I could detect, faintly, lingering smoke odor in my room.

Ah, service does lack. When I checked in, I asked when the breakfast service started and was told at 0600. Sure enough, the next morning I go down at 0600 and am told, "no, we open at 0630". Really folks, 100 feet apart and you can't communicate something as simple as that? (Waite for it -- at 0630 on Saturday, I find out that on weekends, they open at 0700!) But then, I'd rate my entire service experience at the hotel on par with this incident. I had a soaking wet towel and asked a passing maid if I could exchange it for a dry one. The answer was a firm shake of the head and the word "no".

The room is indeed nice -- spacious, well appointed, nice safe (big enough for a laptop p/c), coffee service, comfy chairs, spacious bathroom, though it is shower only, and there was no box of tissues. The A/C is noisy, though -- white noise, not a rattle.

Beware the shower -- it will leak water all over the floor no matter what one does -- even after being turned off.

I am an old geezer and it took a while for me to be able to sort out how the TV works. They do have BBC World News, though (bravo ES!).

Cost to launder a man's shirt/skivvies/sox: $11/5/5. Can't comment on the quality -- didn't avail myself of the service.

Wi-Fi worked steadily but was hardly blazing. Downloading an e-edition newspaper took 15 minutes; at other places, it usually takes less than one minute.

I was happy enough with the restaurants' food; service varied directly with the status of the establishment. The top of the line Italian place was great -- until they seated a businessman right next to me (in an otherwise virtually empty room), who began yammering away non-stop on his cell phone. Though the restaurant is advertised as cell phone free, management made no effort to remind him. Grrrrr.

I have stayed at the Tropico, and have friends at the new Skyna, and will say that for all its defects, the Epic Sana is the place to stay if you can afford it.

Room Tip: The higher up the quieter (traffic noise).

Angolan's are not very friendly in general and the staff in this hotel are no exception. Epic Sana does appear to be one of the best hotels in Luanda though. The rooms are great for sleeping in and their shower products are very nice, the breakfast is great too. Nice views if you get a room high up.

Room Tip: Nice views if you get a room high up.

The best Hotel in Luanda, with the price tag that goes with it. But, it's Luanda, and we must learn to accept that.

The rooms were... fine. No bathtub dough... That was a little disappointing for a 5 star Hotel.

As for the breakfast...
This was the best Buffet Breakfast I ever had! And I already had breakfast in a lot of excellent Hotels in Portugal, France, Monaco, etc... but this one was extraordinary, not only because of the variety, not only for the quality of the ingredients, but also because of the perfect way that everything was cooked.
From the simple eggs to the delicious deserts, everything was brilliant. Even the Baguette had the level of the best I used to eat in France.

This is by far the best hotel in Luanda, but the prices are also EPIC....quite beyond belief. It is, as several reviewers have said a bit of a beautiful shell. The service is not very good and the staff do the usual of avoiding guests. The calibre of the staff seems quite low - a few a very professional many are not.

I feel the training is very poor, particularily for the waiting staff. In an international hotel they should be taught english or at least some basic communication skills. They seem to be trained to be obsequious rather than to serve, which is horrible to experience. Also if the waiter does not understand you, he disappears then half an hour later another English speaking waiter comes to take your order. Do the waiters get jobs on the basis that they're someone's relative? I know there are more professional people in Luanda than this......

The prices for laundry would have bought me a new washing machine after 3 weeks...and the ironing was very poor the clothes came back creased and stains were not removed while washing.

And no working wifi in the room - beyond belief. I had to take my computer down to breakfast to check the email.

The spa is very nice and a boon after a day spent dealing withe Luanda.

this hotel is overrated! there is no value for money!
this hotel is very expensive but the service you get is not very good. i think they need to employ staff who are multilingual as communication is very difficult. the staff knows very little English. half the time you end up speaking in "sign language"

they have very good infrastructure though, which is a good thing!

I'm now in my 2nd 3 week stay in this Hotel, and due to work requirements I'll have to keep coming to Luanda.
Infrastructure wise this Hotel is surely the best in Luanda, new, modern, great facilities like a top class gym, inside pool, outside pool, the upmarket night club switch, etc.

But considering the values charged (from 450USD and up per day) , the service really needs improvement, it's not that the staff is not friendly, it's just that they're not very professional, when I'm paying 7 USD for an expresso, I want the damn thing within 5 minutes, not 30m minutes or even worse it's forgotten.

The super annoying habit of bringing the bill before you actually eat/drink , or while you are eating/drinking - I questioned this and found out this is management decision - get your act together, this is not acceptable.

As this Hotel is mainly used by business, decent internet is a sure requirement, sometimes it's so incredibly slow it takes 30 secs to bring up a google search page.

Room Tip: Getting higher floor rooms really helps avoiding the noise from the chaos that Luanda traffic is.

I was there only for 2 days but I was impressed by the quality. The room was very modern and comfortable. Business meeting facilities and broadband are excellent. Breakfast and lunch were perfect. Clearly using high standards, combined with very friendly staff. An example for many other hotels around the world!
