Hotel Presidente Luanda
Ranked #4 of 43 Hotels in Luanda

As you are searching for hotels in Luanda, soon you discover their prices are a real nightmare for anyone. Despite this, the President Hotel was the cheapest (but not cheap) I found in an area next to the city centre. Location is very important in Luanda, 'cause there's a horrible traffic always and even taxis are rare. The Hotel is old, but passing through some improvements. The bed was nice, and the room was large, with some quite old furniture. I must talk about the water in the bathroom. Please, look at the pic I uploaded, the water appears to be very dirt (it's yellow!) so taking a bath or a shower becomes an heroism act! The staff is not so attentive, specially considering you're paying around U$ 300/night. Breakfast is ok. But, after all, you're in Luanda - you won't find much better deals.

I checked in yesterday. Looking to be checking out today. My main issue is the wireless internet. Or lack of. I was told that it was in my room. Then I was told that it is on the 6th floor in the bar and restaurant. Then I was told it was in the bar, but they didn't have it. The restaurant manager stated that because the hotel was under construction, the restaurant did not have a working passcode for the internet. I then requested to have my meal delivered to the bar, since he said that is the only area that had working internet (which is a few feet away). He said something about being inappropriate, which I reminded him that hotel was inappropriate for the hotel to provide misinformation.
When I tried to work the situation out downstairs, the employee seemed more interested in other things, and kept stopping me to do other things. I mentioned that this will be in a bad review on tripadvisor, and he agreed.
For location, poor. There is a supermarket, but the hotel doesn't provide a hot pot. So you are left with just drinks and snacks. There is a restaurant, but the prices were no better than the hotel. The hotel food was okay. My cheeseburger was about $26US and dry. I would say that the bar staff that provided service was helpful, but he was the only staff that was.

Room Tip: I did get one of the new rooms. It was okay.

Considering Luanda's hotel prices, good value for money. Try to get the new remodeled rooms, otherwise your rating will surely decrease. Older rooms are tired so you must ask for the newer ones. Although not luxurious much more nicer, and a very good bathroom. Good food in the restaurant, nice view of the new Luanda bay and a nice bar for leisure and business. No WIFI in rooms.

The hotel is very good in general. Although the building is not new, and facilities aren't either, they are in good shape and make a comfortable stay. I was there in July, and by then 8th Floor was a building site, but nevertheless, they accommodated people in 9th Floor. Impossible to have any rest after 8 a.m., no matter how jet-lagged you are!! So much lack of consideration.
Breakfast is not a great thing, but, good enough to start a day. Prices for dinner are ridiculous, as most prices in Luanda, like USD 80 for buffet and a couple of beers. Staffs are not exactly the most friendly ones, but probably you can't expect for more anyway.
Problem is, if you don't have a car in Luanda. If you are coming for business and your company will not have a car dedicated for you: you are in trouble. The hotel is practically at the end of the city, in front of the port, and finding a taxi to get to the centre in the morning, will take anything between 1 hour to .. never. Don't mention arriving from airport around 8 a.m.
The hotel doesn't have taxis, nor any type of transportation, and is not exactly near the centre, at least in normal walking terms with business clothing and carrying documents or laptops.
Apart of that, internet connection is fast, good, reliable and included in the fare.
The bar is nice, with atmosphere of an airport lounge. Rooms are light and clean, smelling fresh.
My advice: if you have a car, this is your choice, no need to pay ridiculously expensive fees in downtown. If you don't have a car, well .. you better think twice unless the timing for your meetings is VERY flexible.

Room Tip: At least while repairs in 8th continue, better ask for a room in the upper floors.

Reception staff never show interest in having new guests and the fact they didn't manage english language made things even worse.
The room was enough comfortable but I believe could have been much better as hotel has just been renewed. Internet connection in the room never worked durin my stay.
Breakfast was quite good and the choice big enough.
Rate is quite expensive but that's Luanda

I've been in Luanda for some times now, and been in another hotels, but this Hotel is definitely the best for my business! The biggest problem in Luanda is the traffic, so being in the center of the town, close to most of the big companies is essential. My room was very comfortable and spacious, the views are amazing, you can see all the wonderful Luanda Bay, the Island of Luanda and the Island of Mussulo (the best beach in Luanda). The service is very good, surely the best in Angola, but what impress me was the lack of problems with water, electricity and other issues that in other hotels made my stay difficult. If you are coming for business, don't have any doubts that this is the hotel to choose!

Just stay here one or two night at the most, occasionally, but feel like want to go out immediately and come back when you get tired and think about sleep only. The view is not the best, but you could observed many new cars on the road since there is traffic all the day every day. Food and the room charges is definitely overpriced. Had to stay here caused there is no other choice and had to get place for crash. All I can say it's a funny experience though..:-). Check all the bills in detail before you sign it.
