Stayed here for a full week while attending a workshop at the same venue, the rooms are huge and comfortable, though you wouldnt believe it as you approach, the place is on a dirt road and the surroundings aren't very well maintained, for the pricing its understandable. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be any maids to clean and make beds every morning despite staying a week, and I asked on several occasions but to no avail. A room adjacent to the reception area is highly recommended, the place is pretty big and the other rooms seem very far off and secluded.

The food however was pretty good, I would recommend the Ba fish with roasted plantain to anyone going. The zoo has seen better days, a lion here and there and a few other animals, coming from Zambia, the zoo wasn't that impressive at all.

Room Tip: A room close to the reception, other rooms are really far off and secluded.

This is like a family run business, but isn't really. The best person on the ground apart from the owner's son is the manageress Beatrice. It's as if it were her own place. Other staff people in some cases are rather immature, taking up the Beninois past time of ridiculing and teasing non-French speaking visitors. Can be hard going. But the kitchen staff are hard working and very responsive to conscientious tipping.
It's a microcosm of the history of post-colonial ventures; absolutely sky's-the-limit vision and architecture, but dilapidated because the economy cannot sustain such palatial luxury. Still, kept as clean as you can expect under the national conditions; people trying very hard to keep the place up. White marble and rotundas everywhere, spiral staircases, landscaping and views in all directions. An oasis in a city beleagured by poverty. Amazing zoo, small, even for those who dislike zoos, this is a good experience because it is small scale and intimate. The lions are conducted as if by choral instruction by the zookeeper, who has three sets of twins as it happens. Twins are sacred. Hence the lions oblige: they roar on cue, they respond to acoustical instructions. They roar in their sleep too. The food is good. The bread is from God, as everywhere in Benin.

Room Tip: Try to get something in the quad adjacent to reception. I was in Room AS1. the bathroom was half th...
