We arrived there in the afternoon, the rooms were not ready yet. We decided for an early dinner at the hotel barnext to the swimming pool but got served 1 hour after ordering cold tosts....it is not possible to check out in the evening before and the girls at the front desk are particularly uncoperative. I am sure there is a better stay in Gaborone for that price. Wi-fi isn't free.

Starting with the positives, the rooms we had were spacious and clean. Efficient and quiet air-conditioning. Internet charges, considering the price of rooms were very high.

Check-in was a tediously slow process; my baggage had not arrived with me and the staff did not exactly leap to assist in contacting the baggage services at the airport, it was very much a case of just wait and see when it arrives. Our rooms were not ready on arrival, and the ten minute promised wait turned into 90 minutes.

The buffet dinner in the main restaurant was poor; "hot" dishes were luke-warm at best but in most cases cold. Freshly cooked steaks were tough and the wine list very limited. An expensive meal we were only prepared to try once. For the remaining nights of our stay we ate from the bar menu which was significantly better, although still quite pricey.

As a business trip it was acceptable, had it been a personal trip I would not consider this a value for money hotel.

I spent a week at this hotel and I had a satisfactory stay. However, there were a few issues that I think need to be addressed. The check-in process was very very slow and the front desk staff need to be improved in terms of speed. The hotel was neat and the rooms were clean and tidy. The internet rates were somewhat exorbitant and the connection speed was slow at times. Room service was efficient. The food in both restaurants was good and well prepared. The prices were somewhat excessive though for various beverages. Check out was once again very slow and the airport shuttle seems to operate on a rather random basis even though ample notice had been given of the time that I was required to be at the airport.

Gaborone Sun
This hotel has both good and bad features.  On the whole, staff are friendly and the hotel is a good business and leisure hotel with the design of a resort hotel: low rise complex extending into the gardens.
Many of the bad features are really a reflection of how much top hotels have improved over the years.  As a result, you notice in this hotel the old TV, the noisy airconditioning and the shower which changes temperature at random intervals.  But the rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and the facilities good.  These include a small but excellent restaurant which should be booked in advance as well as a rather average buffet restaurant.
The casino is too small to create a real nuisance to hotel guests and is easily avoided.
A couple of hints: some of the rooms near the central facilities are noisy.  Ask for a room further into the garden.  Sometimes a room is smoky (yes, it is still allowed here) so ask for a different one.

This is a very competent hotel that does what it says on the tin for business travellers and has just a little extra - nice pool, good bar - if you are spending the extra day. They offer free coffee-to-go if you have an early start and the service is willing and with a smile.

Surprising plus point: the formal restaurant is actually very good indeed.
Surprising minus point: the shower pressure was poor in my room.

For a 4-star Sun International Hotel, I was a little disappointed. Our room had innumerable problems but maintenance returned again to fix each of the issues. Trying to get help via phone was difficult until I complained to Switchboard who then organized everything for us. The TVs are minute but the obliging porter assured us they were doing an upgrade soon. The bathrooms are a little old fashioned but once again good enough. The room was good enough and opened onto the lawn. I felt the gardens were not as interesting as they could be but the proximity to the golf course made it relatively quiet and peaceful. We ate at Mahogany's both nights we were there and although they were very obliging, the food was erratic and not always up to scratch although one of our guests had a delicious espetada. Another dinner guest got the runs from the calamari sadly. The casino was fairly busy, hot and smoky. It is a busy hotel with many guests on the pool deck on the Friday and Saturday nights. A child's birthday party was being set up in the garden when we left on the Sunday and the swimming pool, tennis courts, jungle gym etc were in good nick. When we went to pay, there was a confusion on the billing although the staff are polite and obliging.

Room Tip: We stayed in an Executive room in the Mopani Wing and our doors led out onto the garden away from th...
