The service in this hotel was good. The food was tasty and the breakfast was excellent. The wifi was however shocking. It works intermittently and you only get 30mb a day. For a business and 5 star hotel, this is ridiculous. The rooms are nice and clean with comfortable beds. I slept like a baby. All in all, I had a great time besides the poor Internet connection.

Things got off to a bad start when the airport shuttle was 1 1/2 hrs late picking us up. We had no idea if it was coming or not. The driver later said he had to take some passengers to their hotel. The room while clean was smaller than average. and not cheap. The breakfast (included) was very good: lots of choices and good service. We also had dinner there which was also good and reasonable.

I would not choose this hotel again even if the conference is at this hotel. The problems with the internet are unacceptable in a business hotel. The food is average. The rooms are dark. Be prepared for the warnings about possibility of water being turned off due to water shortages.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the end of the hallway for quiet.

Excellent fare at Mokolwane

For an excellent Sunday lunch, it would be hard to beat the Mokolwane Restaurant inside the Grand Palm Hotel Casino Convention Resort. The starters offer sushi, always a treat in Botswana, fish and various tasty treats and then the main purpose of Sunday lunch – the roast! We had succulent gammon; there was the option of beef, accompanied by all the sauces and gravies, traditional roast potatoes and fresh veggies. However, there are also the stir-fry options prepared as you wait by expert chefs, the curry with all the appropriate accompaniments and, the best-kept secret of all, the butterfly-fried prawns, which are prepared on request (3 per person). Round it off with succulent desserts and coffee and you don’t need any more food for the rest of the day! The friendly service is excellent and a musician, strumming gentle ballads on a guitar, enlivens the atmosphere. Definitely 5-star fare.
