We were on a business trip and having some local knowledge we tried the new Saffron restaurant. The one big positive was at last one of very few restaurants in Gaborone that have kept their wine prices at an acceptable level.

The only disappointment for us that albeit that we ordered the dishes of the most spicy variety they were very mild but the quality was very good.

Over all it gets the thumbs up and I will have no problem offering a positive recomendation

the portions and value for money cannot be beaten at the moment in Gabs service is pretty good, with a little room for improvement and attention to details, it will be excellent. there are nice surprises like a 5%discount on your food and drinks when you spend P250.00 or more on your meal. this makes it great value for money and automatically you add it to the tip. the booth/bonket seating is a little stuffy and claustrophobic, but the overall atmosphere is good. nice bar and lounge, the outside seating is not bad, but could use some decent size plants or screens to make it a little more private from the foot traffic to the pizza joint and chicken shack next door. Keep it up Saffron and you will see more of us.

There are a number of very good Indian restaurants in Gaborone - Chutney's, Embassy etc. Where Safrron's really scores is its service - the best I've ever had in Botswana, and comparable with the best in South Africa - pleasant and unobtrusive without being "in your face". There is always some one available, who will attend to your needs without the usual "I'll call your waitress"i. nonsense. The decor is also very tasteful and relaxing
As a restaurant the Indian dishes are of a very high quality and reasonably priced. There is a so called fusion menu with such items as pork chops with chips, however we didn't try this....
We went this first week it opened and again 3 weeks later - just as good.
Whoever trained the staff merits 5 stars

Nice decor thats about all, we arrived lunchtime and ordered white wine but COLD al what arrived was a empty ice bucket but no wine, we finally ordered still no wine on our query we where told that there was no cold one in the fridge and the barman was gone to the store to fetch one.
Realizing that the wine would not be cold we changed to other wine but insisting that it must be COLD. The wine arrived we tasted and it was never near a fridge. We refused to accept the wine and finally settled on water.
Our food arrived chicken tikka starters made from chicken thighs with all the fat and some sinuses attached not impressed, main course after asking first for Prawn Masala, no prawns, lobster masala, no lobster finally fish masala and got assurances that the fish was kingklip and Chicken Korma, both sauces where exactly the same and both had a sour taste.
The kingklip was not kingklip either. Called the manager, no manager called the chef who insisted that the masala was perfect and the nuts in the Chicken Korma where a paste that why we could not see them.
Needless to say we asked for the bill payed and left never to there again. Our whole day was spoiled. Sorry but interior does not hide bad food.
