“Sliding balcony door didn't lock. Apparently, none of 'em lock.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2013

The food was good, the service was good, the location was great, but all that paled to the fact that the sliding balcony door didn't lock. There was a long, sturdy rope-like pipe hanging from the roof, right in front of my balcony and down to the ground, and I immediately imagined someone climbing up in the middle of the night and walking right into my room. When I complained about this, I was told that all rooms have balconies and all the balcony door locks are broken, so even if they moved me, nothing would change. They said this like it was no big deal. Seriously?

It just so happened that someone I met while working in Addis is friends with someone related to the Meriba's owner. The friend made some calls and made one of the maintenance men fix my lock. So now the room I stayed in is likely the only one with a securable balcony door. Just FYI.

On a more positive note, the desk staff sprang into positive action when I needed to print something late at night and their one printers wasn't working. They called local Internet cafes and found one open and willing to print.

I have stayed in this hotel in two occasions, but will not go back again. The rooms are large and nice, but the staff, especially the reception and food quality are very bad. The first time I arrived at the airport, there was no shuttle waiting for me although I called the hotel the day before as well as an hour before arrival. I had to stay in the sun at Bole airport for more than an hour until the shuttle arrived. Presumably, the reception did not mention that I needed a shuttle. Upon arrival, the reception did not even greeted me and was talking with a friend for almost half an hour, laughing and making jokes before attending to my needs and giving me the key to te room. Breakfast is included in the room price, but the food quality in the buffet breakfast is very poor. Even coffee that is probably one of the best things to ave inEthiopia is not made well! Anyway, I was very disappointed with my stays at this hotel and do not recommend it to any friend.

The room was ok, but the bed too hard. Strength: location, price, wifi in the lounge and restaurant. Weaknesses: the breakfast (!!!) is a joke as the rest of the food served. Slow service. Extra charge if you pay with Visa.

I only stayed here for 1 night while in transit. But the hotel and the staff are fabulous!! Staff are friendley and very helpful - I cant faul them.
The room was clean and spacious with a colut tv. Running hot & cold shower. Typical hotel breakfast (local jucies included).
The hotel is in a very good location & in walking distance to some fabulous places - the massive market, museums, restuarants & coffee shops. The neighbourhood was central & safe.
i'd love to stay here again.

Close to western standards. Clean rooms, but maintenance not perfect. Wifi in public areas. No aircon, but not really necessary at this altitude. Good location. Slightly pricey for a locally-owned hotel, but probably worth the bit extra. Breakfast good enough on a good day, but not always. Trying hard to provide good service, but ultimately "this is Africa".

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2012

Spent countless hours trying to find a solid 3-star/low 4-star hotel in Addis. Tough! There are the couple name brand hotels for hundreds of US and oodles of low priced, uncertain places popping up in search results. I gave this place a try.

It is new - a year or two old. But it seems a bit dated. Staff, as many have commented are friendly. Front desk to reception to restaurant. Restaurant has LOCAL prices, not Sheraton-type prices. Unreal. It was so cheap I had to verify the price. Food is avail 24/7.

The gym doesn't exist. To be honest, probably a good thing based on other reviews. Now replaced with what appears to be a nice steam room. Believe there is a small cover charge for it. Located on level -1, below ground level.

Rooms are decently clean and rooms made nice a tidy. Bed is uber firm, not comfortable for anyone who likes'em soft. I had a balcony room facing the street (#502) which I found as a good balance between a bit of street noise and great views of the city.

The location isn't great. There are a couple tourist attractions nearby, but if you like to submurge yourself with locals, this is a good starting point. Check out the coffee shops across the street, locals love it and I enjoyed conversing with many. I'm a single male and didn't have any issues with people harrasing me, except for a few small kids here and there, sent as mom laid on the nearby sidewalk. So the life here, for some.

Tips:
-Hotel has free shutle, but they never answered the phone when I called for airport pickup. Maybe expedia listed a wrong number. Taxi is about 350Birr.
-They did offer me shuttle to airport on checkout.
-Credit card use incurs 2.5% fee
-Most taxi's to anywhere in town is about 100-120Birr
-WiFi in room non-existent, but hardwire is avail. WiFi works well in all common areas
-Due to late flight, they offfered me a $49US extension of my stay 12p-8pm.Important for those who wish to take a nap before the flight out

Overall, decent place in Addis. It's not even close to luxury, but it is clean and well-maintained that you probably don't have to worry about any little critters sharing the room with you. Plus, staff are friendly, full of smiles and willing to help.

This hotel is a joke! No one came to get us at the airport, which set the mood for the rest of the nightmare. We arrived and the " suite" is a joke. The phone did not work, Internet did not work, the shower had lukewarm water. The refridgerator and hair dryer did not work. There is no gym! Adding to the fact that my husband got sick from the food in the restaurant, it was a completely bad situation all the way around!! also, when you check out and want to pay with credit card, you will be charged more. Avoid this place like the plague

Room Tip: Don't stay here!!!
