Four of us were taken here by car by an Ethiopian friend. We had a superb tour inside the church at the top of the hill, amazing paintings about 150 years old, with a lot of background in Coptic Christianity from a very good guide. We were also shown the little church from 700 years ago which is hewn out of rock. Further down the hill, passing ladies bent double with bundles of eucalyptus wood, we were taken round the museum (great if you are interested in embroidery) and the remains of the palace. Also another excellent guide. We didn't go into the church on this compound - looks colourful from the outside but maybe not so interesting inside? Excellent views over Addis at this and various points on the way down. Sharamida is the place if you want to buy traditional clothes.
