Visiting Entoto is a must-do if you're planning to stay in Addis more than a week. Your lungs and sanity will thank you. Whether you take the home up the winding road or a take a minibus/driver up, you'll enjoy the views of the city and be amazed at the cloud of smog you've just escaped. Also take notice of the eucalyptus which is such a famous part of Addis' history.
I would recommend against visiting museum at the top of hill as it is not well-managed and pretty uninteresting. On the other hand definitely go to Addis Ababa University's Ethnographic Museum and the National museum. The church at the top of the hill is also not very interesting. The second church a little ways down the hill houses many historic paintings and features floor to ceiling art. This one is definitely worth seeing. Just know they charge you "foreigner" prices which are about 10x what the locals pay, although this price is still really affordable. I can't remember but it is somewhere around $5USD.
Definitely would come back to this area again!
