We really enjoy it, this was our fourth time staying here the last being 15 days. It's not the Hilton nor the Sheridan, it is what it is, very clean, very hospitable, very cheap and well located. The Resturant has a vast selection of foods, both traditional and foreign and this time they have opened a pizzeria which serves unbelievable pizzas at only £1.50. The bar and Resturant areas has wifi which is actually very quick and the patio is a lovely setting to sit and relax and enjoy your coffee or a St George.
Price wise the rooms are about circa £14 per night.
It all depends what you are looking for, but we would advise that before booking some where expensive before you arrive try here first and then decide if you what to move on.

I have been to the Green Valley Hotel five times over the past five years, and refuse to stay anywhere else during my yearly trip to Addis Ababa. The hotel is wonderful; the staff are fantastic - they are accommodating, kind, helpful, and they speak great English. The restaurant on premises is delicious and offers a ride range of choices, and I love eating on the patio. They also have three computers with good internet connections, and wifi in the lobby area. The rooms are simple but clean with hot water. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

If this is your first time to any African country, then The Green Valley Hotel is a must. Make sure you spend at least 2 nights there when you arrive just to acclimatise yourself to the country and the altitude.
On your first morning, come down and enjoy a lovely breakfast at the outdoor veranda cafe. The waitresses are fantastic and give great service. They work very hard and are always attentive.
The food is lovely and the cinnamon tea is so refreshing. We had a pancake which was delicious and we couldn't resist the fresh Mango juice.
The staff are really helpful. If you do not have your own transport, ask the receptionist to get you a taxi to bring you around the city. They are excellent. It is the only way to go. Otherwise you would have a heart attack driving in the city.
At lunch time again sit out and enjoy life passing by. Bit by bit you will see the wonderful donkeys passing up and down with their loads. The local taxis with their conductors hanging out the windows. They work so hard. The people walking up and down the street are just wonderful to watch. Have a rest in the afternoon and get up again in the evening and explore the surrounding shops. There is plenty to see.
The food and service in this hotel is great. It is cheap, secure and safe. All of the staff are very attentive and I would recomment it to anyone. Some young people can be very affected by the altitude and the first mistake we made was to "get going" too soon and not allowing us to acclimatise.
Next time we go back to Addis Ababa, we will certainly stay at the Green Valley Hotel.

I stayed four nights in this hotel in Addis and was really positivley surprised. The hotel has spacious rooms with TV with ensuite bathrooms which are very clean ( especially considering other african standards) and free internet access. It's obviously no premium hotel but excellent for Africa and excellent value for money. (25$ p.n. when I was there)
Below the hotel is a little bar and downstairs a little cafe where you can get your coffee much cheaper than in the hotel. Next door is a little shop, pharmacy and another restaurant with good value ethiopian & international dishes.
The staff was very frienldy and helpful and spoke sufficient English.

You got daily roomservice and a fresh towel.
Downside is that there is no lift in the hotel, so if you have an issue with walking up the stairs make sure you ask for a room on the first floor when booking.

Oh another bonus: most taxi drivers know this hotel so it's always easy to get home.

I would recommend Green Valley and would definetly stay there again.

Room Tip: rooms out the back are quiter as it's on a mainroad.

We've stayed at the Green Valley several times. The staff remembers us and always treats us very well. Have never had a problem with theft, however, we recommend staying on the second floor and paying a bit extra for a lockable closet. Suggest you bring an extra travel towel and washcloth as the shower curtains do tend to be a bit short and water will leak on your bathroom floor; only a small inconvenience however. The restaurant is quite nice and the balcony offers an entertaining view of morning commerce. Allow extra time for meals as sometimes the service can be slow. However, the food is always good (love the "lemon pan cake" which is actually a delicious crepe).

Room Tip: Rooms facing the parking lot are a bit quieter, rooms on the second floor are still a four-flight cl...

We stayed at the Green Valley for 11 nights whilst in Addis Ababa. It was chosen because of its reasonable rates and central position.
It is on a busy dual carriageway by a junction, with a taxi rank outside, so it is very busy and noisy at the front, especially as there is a cafe on the ground floor.
Our first room was front facing but once we moved to a rear facing one we slept much better.
There is no lift so choose a low floor if you find stairs difficult. The porters were extremely helpful with luggage and there was a locked storeroom for our left luggage while we spent a few days travelling out of Addis.
Accommodation was good by Ethiopian standards; rooms were clean and bug free. All had en suites, although the shower facilities were variable - tending to flood the bathroom floor.
There was very basic furniture and no room safe. We found little niggles like only one small towel left daily, no rail in the wardrobe etc but the reception staff were very helpful in resolving issues like these.
The service from the bar staff was good.
However the food in the restaurant was only average and service very slow. Breakfast was a particular problem especially when we had a timetable to adhere to. We eventually breakfasted elsewhere, and think being in a group of 12 affected their ability to serve us in a timely fashion.
There is free wi-fi in the hotel lobby which was very useful. We did have one day when electricity was out in the hotel, but this was due to a traffic accident outside the hotel demolishing a lamp post.
If you want a cheap clean place to stay central to Addis then I would recommend it. If you want Western standards and quality of accommodation, then go for the Hilton or Sheraton!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are less noisy than those fronting onto the busy street at the front
