It's great to see the monkeys, I've visited many times for the forest walks.
TAKE A GUIDE!! I went on my on with a friend on my third visit thinking I could follow the trail, we ended up lost for 2hrs

Second visit here, is very good to get close to the monkeys and they take nuts from your hand and sit on your shoulders. Very good hour or so

I have been to Gambia many times but only been here once but would go back again on a longer walk next time.
There are usually many bumsters around outside so try to ignore them and go in, buy some nuts and take a guide as they point out things of interest. You feed the monkeys along the way but when the nuts run out so do the monkeys.
The ground can get a bit rough in places and some of the walks are quite long so wear shoes.
Worth while taking time to walk round and makes a change from the beach.

You are guaranteed monkeys here: Vervets are all over the place and you'll probably also see Red Colobus swinging through the trees. A variety of birds, some of which have learned to pose for photos, are around.

You'll be faced with the moral dilemma of whether to feed the monkeys: the signs at the entrance, where the peanut sellers stand, say "Don't feed the monkeys" but everyone does and the monkeys will soon lose interest in you if you don't.

Personally I had a great time at the monkey park! However it is an overgrown forest and there is lots of litter. If you can see past this to the cute savvy monkeys you can really enjoy yourself. It cost 150 dalasi to get in which isn't much at all. There will be lots of locals outside wanting to be your guide. I would recommend finding a local near your hotel who will be willing to take you and that you can trust (this sounds really random but is normal in The Gambia.) purchase some nuts for the monkeys before getting to the park and then when you get there the monkeys will come to you. The earlier you go the better. Beware of the monkeys they are so greedy. Give them nuts one at a time or you will be out of nuts before you can say boo! Really good time but only if you can see past the imperfections and remember its Africa and. It a western zoo!
