“Brand new high end hotel with great pool and breakfast but no Internet and slow service”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

Very impressive design with nice clean rooms, great breakfast, good gym and sauna, amazing massage service and a nice pool. However the Internet service is terrible-- no wireless Internet in the rooms and the cables they provide dont work. Lobby cafe is nice but even there the Internet is not consistent, and the cafe service, despite the large number of friendly staff standing around, is painfully slow. Fun for holiday but should rethink if in Accra for work or business.

Dear Nandita T,

Many thanks for your feedback following your recent visit to our Hotel. I was happy to read that you enjoyed our rooms , breakfast and recreational facilities however I do apologise for the problems you experienced with our internet and the slow service in our restaurant.

We are currently upgrading our entire internet network and we anticipate that by the end of March all ‘blind’ spots in the Hotel will have been eliminated –unfortunately also, as you noticed, our internet provider has of late experienced inconsistent service and has now taken steps to ensure that all their clients are supplied with a more stable provision.

Your comments concerning slow service have been passed onto our Food and Beverage team who will certainly now concentrate on improving their speed and response time.

Once again, thank you for your valuable comments.

Kind regards,

Stuart Chase

The Movenpick is probably the newest hotel in Accra, and the rooms and the lobby show the newness. The building itself is rather unattractive, and the lobby is nothing fancy - it reflects it's utilitarian Swiss heritage, probably. The rooms have engineered wooden floor, flat screen TV, nice work area and a nice bathroom with a large rainfall shower. I was told by my colleague that his room had a tub and a half-glass door that resulted in the bathroom floor getting flooded. No such problem with mine. My room did overlook the front parking lot. The back of the hotel has a very nice and large pool. I did not use it, but it looked inviting. I did have a drink by the pool - it was very pleasant with a nice breeze and a waiter who got around on roller skates. A word of caution - a colleague had a pool facing room and was waken by loud frog/toad croaking.

The breakfast buffet was very good. A nice selection of hot and cold food. You can ask for an omelet or whatever cooked to order. I also had a dinner salad buffet that had a nice selection of cold food including some sushi. Not great sushi but passable. A little pricy, reflecting the 5 star hotel status.

Getting back to the room - the AC control was a bit puzzling. I was either warm or cold. Could not get it to a comfort zone. The wifi was non existent, but the front desk set up a wireless router in my room just for me! The signal was strong and fast after that.

A decent selection of TV channels. The typical African super sport channels carried the football games.

I definitely would say the staff are fantastic. Friendly and courteous. Probably one of the best I have experienced in my African travels.

Only reason for not giving it 5 star is the cost. It is expensive, but I guess things in Accra are that way. I definitely prefer it over the Golden Tulip.

It was my first time staying at this hotel and I was very pleasantly surprised. This place far surpasses the normal African standard.

The staff are friendly, helpful, nothing is too much trouble, and all of them have a smile on their face when they help you. What a lovely change.

The rooms are spacious and quiet. the air conditioning is extremely efficient.

The gym is well equipped, and the trainers are helpful and knowledgable.

The pool area is vast and clean, the sun loungers are comfortable.

Really, the only downside is the wifi access, which is intermittent at best, however, if you have a laptop the business centre will lend you a lead.

I loved my stay here.

Really a great hotel, professional and friendly staff, beautiful new rooms equipped with free internet - both wifi and plug in. Both worked fairly quickly!

We stayed in the executive suites which allowed us 24hr access to the lounge with snacks and food, great plus when arriving at midnight!

Lovely pool - huge, with friendly staff that glide about on roller blades (!). Pool is not cooled therefore swimming laps can get rather warm but it really is big!

Food was good if pricey!

Well .. what to say , just another average 5star wannabe hotel. But to be honest, I was glad it openned.

Accra doesn't offer many business hotels. So I guess we have to do with what we've got.

I would recommend rooms in floor 5 and above, and as far as possible from the pool side, if you do not want your night ruined by a very lound yet not very good band playing live down in the pool area.

Food wise .. mmmmm! breakfast okayish .. extensive buffet, so you can always get somthing to nibble on. Lunch , dinner ... almost the same ! food is ok. I wouldn't go near the fish in a buffet .. god knows how long it was standing there ! and usually what ever left from Lunch, is replenished and displayed back for dinner.

The rooms are clean, and the bed is comfortable. The wireless connection is a nightmare, but its free. You have better chances to catch it in the lobby.

The gym, sauna are ok.

We are still paying 250+USD for a superior room, but I guess we do not have much choice. So get the benifits out of this hotel, while its clean and new .. i bet things will change in couple of years .. they all go down the hill! i just think that the fall won't be that bad, since the hotel is not that " Up there" anyways :)

Travel safe

Dear Businesstravelerdxb,

Many thanks for your constructive feedback following your recent visit to the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel. I was sorry to read that you did not have a restful sleep due to the band playing at an event by our swimming pool – we deliberately try to minimize the amount of event bookings held at our pool area so as to avoid such complaints and, if we do indeed hold any events, we endeavour to inform all our in house guests accordingly and try to offer them alternative accommodations away from any noise – clearly however this did not happen in your case for which we apologise most sincerely.

I will be passing on your comments regarding our buffets to our Executive Chef and his brigade who will certainly review the buffet content used for our lunch and dinner services – please rest assured however that we do no ‘recycle’ any dishes from lunch and we in fact have two resident hygienists who ensure that this policy is strictly maintained.

Regarding the internet connection, I am pleased to inform you that we will shortly be installing additional wireless access points throughout the property and we believe that,as a result, there will no longer be any ‘blind’ spots causing any similar inconvenience to our guests.

On a positive note, we are pleased that you found are rooms clean and comfortable and that the gym and sauna were to your satisfaction. Please do contact me personally on stuart.chase@moevenpick.com should you be travelling to Accra again in the future as it would be a pleasure to offer you a preferential room rate and have the opportunity to perhaps show you the improvements to the services you have mentioned.

Again, thank you for your honest feedback and kind regards,

Stuart Chase
