Today a friend and I arrived at Joska Lodge only to find that our reservation was not kept. After completing a registration form at the direction of the receptionist, we were shown a water damaged and musty room on the first floor that had another guest's luggage and one used towel in it. We expressed our displeasure only to be told that there were no other rooms, we should find a room elsewhere, and that we could not have two towels. After some back and forth, the receptionist insisted the unfolded towel was clean, said we should bear it for the night, and said that she would change our room the next day. We agreed thinking that we could not get a reservation elsewhere on a Saturday evening. Then the receptionist left while telling us to come and pay. In 10 minutes time we made a reservation elsewhere and decided to leave. As we proceeded to leave, the receptionist and the manager demanded we pay VAT because the registration form was filled out. We refused and asked why we should pay tax for something we did not receive. The manager screamed on and on about the form and a hotel employee blocked and locked the exit door. We were screamed at and held until we paid the VAT.
