I have been returning on a regular basis to the Accra Novotel for many years. Recently, I have only been going there when I really have had no other choice since there are better hotels and deals elsewhere in town. My recent experience serves only to reinforce my overall impression that it is still slipping downwards compared to the competition. Admittedly, the renovated rooms on the executive floor (6th) are pleasant and the fittings are OK for a hotel of this category. However, the aircon was blocked at 24.5°C which, in itself, is fair enough in this age of energy conservation. On the other hand, the bedding is woefully unadapted to this temperature - the same synthetic quilts and pillows to be found in Novotels in far cooler climates. The result was nights spent tossing off the covers only to pull them back again. When consulted, the management said there was no way of reducing the temperature and that there were no cotton blankets. Other complaints - very average breakfasts with cold food and powdered (?) scrambled eggs; meeting areas are cramped and the bar fills up very quickly; scruffy public areas and lifts; one out of 2 computers in the reception not working and the keyboards covered in grime. This is a hotel which is not adapting to the local environment. Other than its advantage of being centrally positioned, there are far better value hotels in Accra.
