We went to Accra for a vacation and stayed at the Novotel Accra City Centre and realy had a great time. The staff was more then wonderful and helpful. It was very clean. The bar had a limited selection of food to order but there is a buffet in the main resturant everyday with specials for each day. The room came with breakfast every morning as a buffet. There is a pool it was very clean and very nice. They will even bring drinks and snacks to you poolside. It was the same food everyday but overall, it was good. It is not a far walk from the forts and the lighthouse in Jamestown.

Taxi's at the hotel are expensive, it is better to walk off the hotel grounds and bargain with the driver for a better rate.
We also used a trip company to take a day trip to Okuma National Park for a canopy walk and then to Cape Coast Castle. We very much enjoyed our trip and if we are ever in Accra again, we will stay there.

I stayed only for one night in this hotel, so I don't pretend to be able to give a complete picture of this hotel. the room was ok, not big but not small either. The toilet was separete from the bathroom, which was lucky because the light in the toilet didn't work, I had to leave the door open so the light from the hall could help me see anything in there. It seemed to be clean, but I didn't examine it closely. I arrived rather late in the evening and was happy just to have a snack in the bar and then get to bed as soon as possible.

Breakfast was ok, but I had to ask the staff to get me some tea, they weren't very attentive and didn't approach me to find out what I wanted (and I couldn't fetch tea for myself, i wouldn't have minded doing that).

The hotel has a pool area that looked really nice but I didn't stay long enought to find out. If I'd go to Accra for a holiday I would probably choose hotel by the beach, but for a quick business trip, this will do just fine.

the rooms are pretty cruddy. i liked the one place in west africa that i stayed in that has a free breakfast buffet and the waffles arent half bad.

otherwise, it has a good location and the lobby/restuarnat areas are pretty nice so just avoid your room.

oh, and when i was there there was wireless in the rooms but it just didnt work that well. you sometimes have to move around the lobby looking for a spot that works.

they gym is great too.

This was my third of fourth stay at Novotel in Accra. Actually I prefer to stay at Golden Tulip when they offer reasonable rates, but when the lower price rooms are not available I switch to Novotel. What you think of this hotel is going to depend entirely on how reasonable your expectations are. Let's get straight to what annoys guests. The rooms are small, fairly basic and need an upgrade, the neighbourhood isn't wonderful, the food choice is not very extensive, and breakfast is not the high point of the day.

There's quite a lot on the upside though. The obvious one is that if your business in Accra is downtown (for work, for NGO or as tourist), then Novotel is very convenient and it saves a lot of time and hassle compared to having to come in and out of town. I find the staff friendly and helpful, albeit with some variation in speed of pool/bar service. From observation, I feel that many guests have a lot to learn themselves about courtesy and first approach. Wi-fi in the hotel is free, quality is a bit hit and miss, patience is a helpful virtue. TV is good for the region. It carries a number of South African sports channels (which included live coverage of the Ashes). Air-con fine, room service fine, wardrobe space not so great.

Partway through my visit I had to go to another city in Ghana for a few days at short notice and break my stay. I told them the day before and anticipated being stiffed for the missed nights. To my surprise they were great about it and I did not get charged for anything except the nights I stayed. Incidentally, on any of my stays I've never had a problem of overcharging on the room rate or for items that shouldn't have been there.

Other features: The pool is fine although the grounds are not very big. You can go a bit stir-crazy if you're there for a week or more on your own. The gym is small with a few treadmills, exercise bikes and some resistance training equipment, but it isn't used very much so there's no problem doing what you wish to. They do a reasonable pizza, which is inexpensive as are the other snacks on the menu and the beer. Airport shuttle is good, free and reliable, and if you give advance notice ofyour arrival and flight they can normally meet you after customs and before you go out into the general melee. Don't underestimate how good this is if you are a first-time visitor. Note that this is a French hotel chain, so bring two-pin European-style adaptors as you're not going to find 3-pin sockets.

Final thought: Guests who feel that it doesn't fully meet their expectations of service might just take a walk around the block past the markets and the minibus station with their eyes open, and when they get the nice blast of the air-con on their return, do a little reflection. The challenges of life faced by the populace outside the hotel walls do not excuse any deficiencies in service, but it may promote a little more patience and understanding.

The hotel was clean and location seemed alright. The problem is the rooms do not accommodate travels who want comfortable separate beds. They had one queen size in the room and the "bed" is a couch, that they turn into a tiny single bed. It is completely ridiculous. Unfortunately, the travel company PALACE TRAVEL, was aware of this, but never informed us. So, I had three uncomfortable nights on the couch/bed, and the for $200.00 US a night, this is definitely not worth it. I would never stay there again. They also don't have any relaxation facilities like a massage, spa or esthetician services.
