The hotel looks like it has been forgotten. Old decor, very basic rooms. The baths were old and worn out - although the shower worked just fine. TV really non-existent, beds were comfortable though. Be careful of the desk chairs, could break any second. Wi-fi comes at a cost and does not work extremely well. The meals are bland and expected with no real variety each day or night. At the cost, not really value for money. Maybe try Lesotho Sun next time.

I would not take the family here, but for a quick business trip - not the worst you can get. Don't rely on the wi-fi though, rather make sure you have 3G on roaming. The hotel is however, conveniently located to the city, but then everything is Maseru is fairly close to each other.

In its day, the Sun was a great hotel, and still appears to be an oasis in the mahem of Maseru. However, if you are staying at the hotel you may end up with a different opinion. The rooms are well-traveled and showing the wear. The hotel is tired and in need of an update.

Amongst people I've met during my nineday stay in Maseru it seems like there is a common meaning that Maseru Sun is one of the top two hotels in Maseru. "The guys really like they luxury" people say... Well, if you expect luxury my friend, you will be dissapointed. This is not only a negative report though, I have some good news as well.

First, the hotel is outdated. The entrance and the hotel in total was probably build in the 70s. And it hasn't been refurbished a bit since that time. The gardens are beautiful, the pool looked great. The rooms need a serious facelift, as do the restaurant, the bar, the lobby, all the hallways and stairs/lifts. There is no safe in the rooms. The bathroom is old. It all works, but it doesn't look good. And it's certainly not a luxury hotel!

The dinner buffet had one feature I enjoyed. You get the vegetables and meat you like and you get one of the staffmembers to cook it for you with your choice of sauce. If you're lucky you get to meet Chris, one of the young cooks in this place. An amazingly nice guy! The rest of the food in the buffet was sadly dull and poor though. Still the restaurant seemed popular amongst locals. That surprised me a bit.

The staff in overall were very service minded, smiling, welcoming and open. If the hotel had been better and half the price, they would have gotten a better score from me. But it takes more than a great staff to run a good hotel, and this one need some serious investing to get back on top in Maseru.

I must add that we heard about Lancer's Inn after two nights in Maseru Sun. We spoke to some locals about the price level and that you would have to walk quite a distance to get to the city center (through some areas you might want to be careful walking in at night, specially as a tourist!). The guys told us we needed to check out Lancer's Inn. And I don't have the words to describe the feeling when we checked it out. For half the price you get a proper excellent standard, good restaurant, okey breakfast buffet, nice looking hotel bar with a great service minded bartender named Joyce, and a good looking garden and pool on the back. For half the price! It seemed unbelievable at the time.

So unless Maseru Sun does some real refurbishing to get up to date, I would not consider this hotel at all.

I stayed at the Maseru Sun last June, for organising a conference. Being June the beginning of winter, all common areas are really cold (we kept our coat in the restaurant!), and when we arrived the heating in the rooms were turned off... The conference room were not yet set up, and all facilities we asked for in our emails (mikes, video projector, screen, etc.) were not in the room. You have to ask several times the same thing before obtaining what you want, as they seem to be quite lazy and not willing to help.

Rooms (and bathroom) are clean and the restaurant was good, with a wide choice of food in the buffet (even at breakfast).

Wifi is expensive (30 euros for 1Gb traffic) but it was fast, even in the room (I could make calls on Skype).

The location is good, within a walking distance from the center and the main mall (which seems to be the only attraction in Maseru, since when we asked what we could visit in the city, everybody answered "The Mall!").

Room Tip: Ask for a sud-oriented room in winter (the northern side is sooooo cold!)
