“Good for light drinks, breakfast and a light lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2013

I stayed at the Lancers Inn which enabled me me to frequent this restaurant. The service is friendly, the beer is good, wine selection is limited - although their rump steak could equal some places in the US. Vegetables are fresh and organic...

“Good restaurant where that is rear”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2013

The Rendezvous Restaurant is located in the same construction as the Lancers Inn hotel. So it is basically the hotel restaurant. But it has it's own entrance and is completely separate. Situated in the middle of city center it is a quiet restaurant with outdoor seating in a good looking park, inside seating with an exclusive atmosphere or window table seating with a more rustic look. Toilet facilities look clean and newly refurbished.

The menu holds many classics from all over the world, including several from Europe. My opinion is that they might improve their quality by removing some courses off the menu to really focus on a few. Who goes to Lesotho to eat thai soup anyway? You go to Thailand to eat thai soup. But I'm sure the menu is based a bit on the needs of the diplomatic clients of the hotel. It has chicken livers, pasta gorgonzola, snails, wok... The range is broad.

When it comes to taste they don't get full pot. Seen with european eyes the courses look a bit dull and doesn't taste much. It is eatable definitely! But they only know how to spice things up. In french cuisine you play with fat and acids to make the tastebuds sing. The acid in the flavor picture of this kitchen is non existent. The restaurant manager could send the crew on an excursion to the courses origin, so they could see how it's originally done.

If you compare Rendezvous with other restaurants in the area, you'll probably find that this is your favorite. Like I did. I ate breakfast here 4 times, and 5 dinners.

Then it's the service. It's slow but great all over this part of the world. But on the Rendezvous it is almost with efficiency as well. All the staff speak perfect english and are extremely polite. They will help you with anything. Eric and Gregory are evening waiters in the restaurant - both doing a great job. And Joyce, the evening shift bartender in the next door hotel bar, is a fantastic lady that saves your night sleep after a rough day.

The prices are very low compared to what I'm used to. So that's why I don't mind that the food's not at Michelin star level. The service and atmosphere more than makes up for it, and makes this restaurant more value for money than f.ex. highly rated Noma i Copenhagen.

“Quiet and just off a busy street”

The outside tables are pleasantly arranged and on a good surface. There is good spacing between tables and they are surrounded by a small garden.

“A classy niche”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2012

The food and drinks were prepared with flare. The service everywhere in southern Africa is slow by western standards, but everything was so well done, it was worth the wait.
