“Lebanese menu”

Saraya offer delicious Lebanese menu and salad bar. Saraya located on the second floor, downstairs there is a cafe and another cafe outside.

Saraya clean place, I have been there at least 10 times, I never had same service or same taste of any dish. Sometime it is good sometimes it is not.

Downstairs cafe good to have light meals, ice cream, hot cold drinks general it is acceptable place more than upstaries.

The cafe outside is really nice especially on the time of sunset, they offer nice Nargila. most of the staff are Egyptians with good behavior.

“Popular spot in the centre of Tipoli”
Reviewed 15 May 2012

Al-Saraya is a popular place in Tripoli where one will find many expatriates who come here for a bite to eat due to its central location in the square and good value for money. The food is wholesome and well prepared. The perfect place to sit out in the pleasant evening breeze.

I´ve been to this place many times during my 2 years stay in Tripoli. The interesting thing about it: right at Green Square, facing the corniche. This is the heart of Tripoli and you can have an interesting glimpse of the libyan way of life. There are other fancier restaurants (in the hotels), but this place is really great for coming with friends, specially on weekends, when you can watch the fuss of people and cars around. As-Saraya has three ambients:

a) in the back there is cafe, where locals gather to chat and smoke ´shisha´ (narghila). It´s quite typical and interesting to see.

b) facing the square, it´s the place for having a snack (sandwhich, pizzas) or drink some coffee with friends. Nice in the late afternoon. Service is always slow, don´t get upset (this is absolutely normal in Libya, they´re never in a hurry). Try a cappuccino or a macchiato. Lybians really learned from the Italians how to prepare them.

c) Upstairs is the restaurant. You can seat inside, if weather is hot, or in the balcony outside (this is the best place, because you can see the people at the Corniche. Families making pick-nick, children playing, etc. With a little imagination you could even think this is somewhere in the South of France). It´s a nice place with a good service. For the quality, I think the price is really OK (if you don´t want to spend money, eat a pizza downstairs). Food is good. This is normal Libyan food (I mean, not for tourists), so maybe it´s not exactly like you´re accostumed to. In case of doubt, talk to the waiter and ask him for suggestions. They´ll be very happy in helping you. I considered this the best place for eating pasta in Tripoli (It´s not an Italian restaurant. Remember: Libya was an Italian colony, that´s why they have Italian food). If you want past, try their ´pasta tricolore´ or lasagne (this is a little small). You should ask for a salad of some other entry. Try ´Lybian soup´, which is quite typical (and spicy). They also serve a good m´bakbuka (this is typically Libyan - pasta with meat and lots of chili pepper. Ask them not to make it too hot). Their lamb couscous is also good. In the end, don´t forget to ask for a mint tea (´shahi nana´). This restaurant is also a good option for eating out at night with a group of friends (also for couples). I think it´s much more fun than eating in a hotel. This region is quite safe.

“A nice variety of food choices!”
Reviewed 17 March 2012

One thing that impressed me about the Al-Saraya restaurant was that when the food arrived on our plates, it looked exactly like it was pictured in their menu!! They had a nice selection of foods from club sandwiches to hamburgers and cheeseburgers to pizzas to salads, etc. as well as a variety of drink choices. Most plates were served with french fries and a nice, fresh salad. I would put the price in a mid-range section. The restaurant was quite smoke-filled inside, but it was a beautiful, spring day and we were able to sit outside. There were also a number of people smoking the water pipes outside, so that could be a positive or a negative depending on if you are bothered by the smell and atmosphere that goes along with that. On the whole, I enjoyed the restaurant and would recommend it to others!

“Right in the Center, One of the Originals, Reasonable Prices, Okay Food”
Reviewed 11 January 2011

In a city where culinary achievement is in its development stage and not much should be expected regarding rich flavors and spices, Saraya does a great job at combining a very convenient location in the middle of green square at the old city, reasonable prices (something that is going the way of extinction in Tripoli) and okay food to earn itself a 4 star rating. Do not expect to be blown away but also walk away with some extra money to spend in the Medina. The service is okay but the floor is very open so you can always get someone's attention. I did not go upstairs, but I have heard the dining floor upstairs is nicer - it is the family dining room and was closed when I went.
I have had the chicken shish tauok - my favorite, the grilled chicken salad - still good enough and pretty basic and the veggie pizza (my friend had the tuna pizza, it looked better if you like tuna on your pizza) it was okay - too much cheese and definitely canned veggies (mushrooms and olives) for toppings - I'd go margherita instead if tuna is not for you. The pizza was definitely enough for 2.
