Having stayed for a month, all hotels get old but the staff makes this better. They are well selected and trained. All make you feel at home. From Rex, the waiter who remembers your favorite table to the housekeepers who care for you to the customer services staff who run small errands for you..all contribute to making this a first class hotel. The general manager has just been rotated to another property but I'm sure the quality will l not suffer.

We used this hotel as our base to make day trips to Leptis Magna and to Sabratha: also it is walking distance from the main museums and central Tripoli. Excellent rooms and good service.
The best restaurant (the Fes) at the top of the hotel serves very good Moroccan food which tases delicious without any alcohol, which is not available in Libya. The Italian restaurant is also good althought the service can be a little Italian and slow.

The hotel is the only 5* in Tripoli (Although others are coming) and they use that to good effect. The hotel is very nice, the rooms are clean and well maintained and the hotel has all the facilities you would expect.
Unfortunately you have to pay through the nose for everything!
Meals aren't cheap, if you want to iron anything you are forced to use the laundry service (will take my travel iron next time), and the airport trip cost 40 euro, one way.
Don't get me wrong, if you have the money, it is a lovely place to stay, but if you need to count the pennies, maybe try one of the other places in town,.

The bab deserves to be called a 5 star hotel with every thing you would expect , rooms are good and view terrific . I stayed there twice during my trip to Libya April 2007 and was more than satisfied , however both times I checked in it took more than an hour as the staff could not find my booking luckily my guide was with me and after a phonecall and arguements the problem disappeared , so make sure you confirm your booking . Tripoli is is a beautiful city and the local people are wonderful .

Unfortunatly after 5 visits to this Hotel- the management have not improved.... It is the only International standard hotel in Tripoli, and hence probably the only real option for business and "middle class wealthy" tourists to stay- but at 250-330 euros a night well over priced.

The staff (waiters and conceriege) are great- overall. If it wasn't for certain members that struggle against lazy managers to provide the best service that they can- I would not stay here.

Simple things such as dial up internet at 15 kbps is the only option in the rooms, 3 Computers on slow broadband int he exec lounge plagued with viruses, poorly maintained bathrooms, over priced eating outlets, unmaintained gym equipment.....make the stay @frustrating@ for those that travel extensively.

As soon as alternative hotels open in Tripoli- this hotel will struggle, and many of the staff will seek to go elsewhere.

I have never met so many talented and effective staff- demotivated by lazy managers.

Shame on the Corinthia chain, I will never stay in a corinthia hotel again...unless i have no option.....as in Tripoli.

I was pretty dubious about this hotel in Libya, since 5* hotels in Egypt can be quite grotty. But in fact it is probably the best hotel that I have ever stayed in. The whole place is sparkling clean, luxuriously kitted out, and the staff are smart and attentive and numerous. A customer relations manager regularly approaches guests in the foyer and checks that all is well. Any problems or queries are dealt with promptly -- and I had some.

The hotel looks good at first sight, and the impression is followed through throughout. The rooms are of a very good standard, and solidly built. The bathrooms are spotless, and include a stand-up power-shower. There is plenty of hot water. The hotel has already been refurbished in some areas, despite being only 2 years old. The restaurants are reasonably priced and very good quality.

I tried out the room service, and ordered french fries. In most hotels, even in Europe, this really is a demanding test, and you wait for ages and get cold soggy chips. In the Bab el Africa, they came when they said they would, and were hot and crisp!

TV channels are plentiful, in English, French, German, Italian and Arabic, and of reasonable standard. Most rooms overlook the sea.

It's very hard indeed to think of any way in which this hotel can be improved. I would happily take my elderly and fussy mother to stay there. The price advertised on the web for the hotel is collosal, but tour companies can get much reduced rates.

This truely is a five star hotel but a great start or end to any expeditions to Leptis Magna, Sabratha or into the desert. Surprisingly only one image of the great leader in reception.
Its just across the road from the Old Medina which is worth a trip in the evening.
