The best thing about La Residence is that the beds were very comfortable. Sometimes that's hard to find here in Madagascar. H
owever, considering the price, it was unacceptable that they had so many plumbing issues, a huge amount of mold (bad for allergies), and not the best service (in a country that usually has outstanding service).
The worst part about La Residence is its location - far from any of Tana's normal things to see and do (including far from any decent restaurants or places to buy food). If you're not driving yourself (and it's hard to want to, considering Tana's horrible traffic), then it's hard to get to and from La Residence without paying exorbitant private taxi fees (including the private taxi the hotel already knows - WAY too expensive!) - and sometimes taxis just plain don't want to go there anyway. Which means you're reliant on the hotel's food, which is fairly expensive (normal price for a very high quality restaurant in Tana) but not that tasty and pretty bad service (takes them forever, apparently they're not well-equipped for cooking for just 3 guests).
Overall, I'd say find another hotel. For the same price, you can find one much nicer and much closer to the stuff to do in town.
