We stayed at Le Combava for 8 nights on a recent trip to Madagascar. We were working at Ambohibao Hospital, making this the most convenient hotel for our particular needs. What we found however, was more than convenience. The rooms were very spacious. We stayed in the Cocao Rooms (2 of them), one before and one after our weekend in Antisrabe. Our first room was very open and very clean, with a large kitchen/dining area, a large bedroom area, sitting area and balcony. It overlooked the restaurant below. I forget the room number but it was just at the top of the stairs to the left (#5 I think). Our second room was also overlooking the restaurant with a balcony but was not nearly as open feeling. It was also at the top of the stairs but to the right #8?).

The front dest staff spoke english very well. They were helpful with money exchange, making phone calls and help with internet issues. Wifi is included with the rooms which is helpful.

The restaurant was good. We had room service bring up coffee and a snack each morning which was quick. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times as well, once for lunch (for sandwiches which were good) and once for dinner. We had Zebu carpaccio which was a delicious appetizer.

The grounds felt very safe. There is a large gate which is locked shut at night, we had to be let in with our driver each night as we would return from work after dark.

I highly recommend Le Combava, it is convenient on the road to the airport. The rooms are nice and spacious. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I have nothing negative to say about our 8 nights at Le Combava.

Room Tip: Cacao Rooms are big suites with lots of space. The Cacao Room at the top of the stairs to the left w...

OK that's not entirely fair, the pizza was serviceable enough but the meal we had in the beautiful looking main restaurant in the evening was absolutely appalling. Perhaps the worst meal we have ever had which was only worsened by the fact that within an hour the food poisoning my wife picked up from the revolting meal hit like a truck and she spent the whole night being sick.

The room was very big, with a kitchenette but quite spartan. Bathroom was extremely badly lit, which may have been a blessing in disguise.

Staff were all nice and friendly but I thought it was quite expensive for what you actually get.

Quite convenient for the airport, although if thats your main criteria there are lots of good hotels much nearer.

Definitely wouldn't go back.

8 of us had a birthday dinner at La Combava restaurant on February 15th. The covered garden setting is extremely cozy and was excellent shelter from the evening rain. We all split different pizzas and salads with bottles of Red and White wine. Substitutions on the pizza ingredients were accepted and the complimentary cake at the end of the meal was a bonus. This is a Convenient place for a meal if you are staying near the Antananarivo airport and better still if you are staying at the hotel itself.

A very well-appointed hotel which would get a good review in any country. In Madagascar, it is remarkable. Each room is decorated in an individual style and the three I stayed in (on several stays during a two week trip) were each more like a suite than a single room. Each had a sitting area, kitchen and nice bathroom, although with shower rather than bath. The hotel staff were very helpful, spoke good English, offered assistants and foreign exchange. The restaurant was reasonable, but I would stick to the more straightforward dishes - pizzas are excellent.

Location is just about perfect - near the airport and ten minutes walk from a big tourist market. It's not in the centre of the city though.

Stayed here for 5 nights and was a great hotel. It has a rustic bohemian feel with each room unique and different in decoration and style. Rooms were very comfortable and good in size and amenities. The staff were all very friendly. Food at the restaurant was reasonably priced and very good too. I would recommend this for people on business or staying in Tana for a few days. Too bad they don't have a pool.

We stayed here twice - one night before we took a flight out of Tana, and a second time as a day room before a flight home. It is idenally placed for good access to the airport, avoiding most of Tana's traffic jams. The rooms are good, large, clean, with comfortable beds, arm chairs, a table and chairs. There is also a smal kitchenette area with microwave, plates and cutlery, a sink. The first time we had a balcony, with table and chairs, which was very pleasant. The staff are very helpful. Do make sure you find the (slightly obscure) pizzeria, which makes delicious pizzas in a wood buring oven.

I have stayed here several times (in different rooms) over the past year, and have never had a bad experience. The staff is unobtrusive once you get to your room, but responsive if anything is needed. Condition of furnishings and overall cleanliness of rooms is always good. I have never experienced any food-related illness at the restaurant, and quality of food is above average for the island. The staff communicates mostly in either French or Malagasy, however I always manage to get by with broken French and basic English. The only thing I would like to see added at this property is mosquito nets for the beds during certain seasons... the property is located in a lowland rice paddy area and sometimes this is a problem. Lastly, this location is not well suited for any sort of outdoor recreation or nightlife unless you have transportation.

Room Tip: ask for a room on upper floors to reduce noise from other guests coming and going into main office a...
