“Spacious, Friendly, Clean, with Unique Location”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

As noted by others, Le Combava is located well outside Tana and fairly close to the US Embassy and the airport. It is very pleasant inside, but not situated for venturing beyond its walls. The staff is very friendly and many speak English well. They happily stored our belongings while we were touring other parts of the country, allowing us to travel lighter and then pick things up on our way back through Tana.

The rooms are really spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The room10 has a nice balcony looking over the rice paddies in front and a marshy area to the side. It has a large bed, a kitchen area with table and chairs, and a water closet separate from the bathroom. We also stayed in a room on the ground floor which was similarly spacious and comfortable, less the balcony.

The restaurant is good, especially the pizza, though the service was sometimes very, very slow, and on at least one occasion the waiter either did not or did not want to understand English and did not think to ask a colleague for help.

When we wanted to walk outside the hotel grounds, the front desk staff worried it would not be safe. When we ventured out after leaving money and valuables in the room, we did not feel unsafe, but walking on the road was unpleasant, and there was no easy access closer to the greener areas we'd hoped to enjoy.

Room Tip: Room 10 and the one next to it have great balconies.

We were very happy with this hotel. It was expensive, but we had a night in Tana before catching our flight home so wanted to be assured of getting a good night's sleep and an easy journey to the airport. Our room - Cacao - was the largest and plushest room we stayed in on our trip round Madagascar, with a separate dining area and kitchen. We also had a very tasty dinner in the hotel's restaurant.

Room Tip: We stayed in Cacao which was a lovely room

Just spent the last 10 days at this hotel. The hotel was very clean. The restaurant provided good meals that we regularly used with no disappointments. It is relatively close to the airport and the American embassy. It is quiet. It is slightly expensive for Madagascar, but it was not unreasonable for what you get. The dinner and lunch menu are the same. If I return to Tana, I will definitely stay there again and I can recommend it without hesitation. It is not close to downtown.

We had a large room at the top and there was a single bed as well as a queen; also a small kitchen area.

Although by western standards, this is an average business hotel, it is one of the best in Tana. Located handily only a 30 minute drive from the airport, it has good privacy, aircon and security. Staff are generally helpful and friendly and it has some excellent dining options including a lovely glass covered outdoor restaurant, pizzeria and indoor cafe. Breakfast was good but food quality was hit and miss (we had moudly pain au chocolats one morning and despite a coffee machine, coffee was not good). Staff here speak excellent English and we much appreciated the english language versions of the in-room guide. More english TV would be good.

We stayed twice here. The first stay was in a standard room. It was good and clean. Only complaint was it can be noisy as the reception and restaurant noise comes up the stairway and sadly there are no soundproofed room doors. If disturbed by noise I certainly wouldn't recommend the ground floor rooms next to reception/kitchen.

The second stay we had a luxury top floor suite. This was fantastic with good views, a private balcony, small kitchenette and good privacy.

Overall this was my favourite hotel of my time in Tana and I would recommend.

The rooms are really nice, big and clean. The showers are great and the beds comfortable. The staff are extremely polite and helpful and the food in the restaurant is good (dinner better than breakfast). It's really convenient for the airport and is close to the huge handicraft market. Would recommend for short stays in Tana.

Room Tip: Ask for a room where you can see the sunset over the paddyfields.

Stayed here for one night only during our holiday in Madagascar, to be closer to the airport than the Lokanga Hotel where we had previously stayed - see review.
Room was large and had a small kitchen area in it. It was clean and well presented.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening, from which we weren't expecting too much to be honest, but the food and service was very good.
The hotel is on what appears to be a ring road in 'Tana', but it was very quiet, and we could not hear any noise from outside. Unfortunately the bed was rather too soft for our liking. Staff were helpful, for example providing a hair drier immediately when we asked for one.
If you need to stay nearer to the airport, this is a very good hotel to stay in.

Room Tip: We stayed in a cocoa room on the second floor, which was large and very good.

Very reasonably priced stay, inclusive of breakfast. Room had a small kitchenette, sitting space and comfortable bed. The television magically turned on just as we were falling asleep, and it happened to be a CNN special we were excited to see.
