This has got to be one of the most unique places we've ever stayed in. The history of the house itself is very interesting and the way it has been restored is beautiful. Being so small it only takes a few guests at a time which adds to its appeal.

We stayed here for four nights (non-consecutively) throughout our time n Madagascar and it was like a little oasis where we knew we would feel at home and get some rest before the next adventure. The food is mostly quite lovely and the staff are so friendly and welcoming.

Little niggles do exist but even they add to the charm - it has old wooden floorboards so you can hear people come and go a lot, but to be honest it just made me feel like I was staying and my grandmother's house or something!

I fell in love with the layout and decor of this hotel. We stayed only two nights (each a separate stopover in the city between other trips), but the romantic and relaxed atmosphere meant it didn't seem a rush. The views over the city as we enjoyed wine on the terrace at sunset were stunning and even better when the fork lightening came down later at night. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and attentive, if a little un-rushed.

We only stayed one night in transit but would quite happily have stayed longer. The staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough for us. As mentioned in other reviews, they spoke excellnt English. We had requested a room with a large bed (as advised by a review I read online) as my husband is 6'3" and we were not disappointed! We were shown to the Baroque suite, which is huge and furnished in French Colonial style with antiques and a big bed overflowing with white fluffy pillows. The bath is freestanding - not in a separate room but in the same space as the bed - and the toilet is behind a screen in the corner! However, in the event of someone needing some 'reading time', there is a shared balcony with good views over the city for the other person to go to give them some privacy.
The hotel had prepared some handouts on guided walks so we followed one route and walked to the Queen's Palace, a nice stroll for an hour or two.
The dinner was excellent, local food freshly prepared, only marred by the fact we had to be indoors and not on the balcony as the smoke from the slash and burn on the outskirts of the city was as thick as a pea-souper and made it unpleasant to sit ouside and also obscured what would have been a beautiful sunset. Obviously not a fault of the hotel and doesn't seem to be mentioned in other reviews so I guess our timing was just unlucky. We had to leave at 4am but the full buffet breakfast was laid out for us and the restaurant manager was there to greet us despite the hour. All in all, a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: As mentioned, if you are tall, let the hotel know in advance to be sure to get a room with a bigger...

This is a pleasant hotel but was arranged for us as a stop over between flights around Madagascar the hotel is a considerable distance from the airport especially difficult in the rush hour traffic, it has no air conditioning or mosquito nets the floors are wooden and there are people walking about all night there are also a lot of local dogs. If you are only in town for 1 night and travelling on this May not be the hotel for you. The food and views are very good

A small but amazing hotel. Rooms are different but well apppointed. Has been furnished in the old french style. Menu has good choice and well cooked.
Not a criticism of the Hotel, but avoid the Sundowner Foie Gras!!!!! when we found out how Foie Gras prepared in Madascar

Room Tip: I don't think there is a preference, but ours overlooked the Town.

We only stayed here one night whilst transiting back to the UK but what a place to stay. Great views, high over the chaos of Tana below, where over breakfast, you can watch the city wake up in the morning from one of the balconies.
There really are no faults with this place, we had a great evening meal, buffet breakfast had plenty of choice and was a good start to the day, really freindly staff who all spoke good English, which was a nice bonus.
Our room was HUGE, probably 50 feet long, the bed again was huge and comfy. With access to a large balcony, which is shared with another two rooms but we had this to ourselves during our stay.

Its about 30-40 minutes from the airport and well worth the effort to ecsape all of the same old, same old business type hotels that you will find in the city below.

It was a very, very nice experience. (big smiley face)

If you want to feel like a queen in Tana, if you like history and art, and being pampered, stay here. Each room has its own theme and history, every object in this boutique hotel has a unique story. Staying here is more than a sleep-over, it is a journey in Malagasy past times. Fabiola, the owner, has eye for detail and makes sure all her guests are attended to in the best possible way. The view is stunning, as it changes from day to night. Even for those, like us, who have lived in this city for many years, but never take the time to enjoy its strong points. So if you need a romantic hide out from the chaos in Tana, and sleep under the softest bed linens ever, find the Lokanga!
