Try trekking around Madagascar for six weeks. You will crave a hot shower with good water pressure. You will crave the feeling of cleanliness and security. You will crave a delicious coffee or hot chocolate in a beautiful cafe with a fire. You will hope for friendly, caring staff. Belvedere gave me all of the above. The housekeepers even washed my taxi-brusse clothing that I wanted to throw away. It came back so clean, I reconsidered :)
If you're stupid enough to walk around a developing country unaware, then maybe the other review will dissuade you, but don't worry. At night, you can either stay in the hotel or get a cab somewhere. There are plenty of good restaurants and clubs in walking distance. I didn't have a problem. It's a new hotel, and super clean. I highly recommend it, and I'm a single, American female traveler.
