The Sakamanga is a great hotel. From the moment you turn right into the hotel you enter a kind of museum with all kinds of memorabilia. Then, as you follow the staff to your room, remember which way to take as the hotel spreads out behind through all kinds of alleyways and buildings. The rooms differ in the hotel: from grand luxurious suites without mosquitos and with mozzie nets to smaller rooms that can be filled with mosquitos without mozzie nets.
If you have the chance, breakfast is great and offers a splendid amount of choices. We stayed here for in total 5 nights and had only opportunity for the breakkie here, and 4 other times at the airport at 5 am.
Locationwise: to the right you will find the old city center with the central market, the post office and the palace and all sorts of shops. To the left you find the major boulevards of the city. All in walking distance.
The Sakamanga holds a restaurant that is very popular with tourists, especially French. Food is very good.

This place is a great value - big rooms and they can add an extra bed into the room for a small charge.

Very clean, good food, a pool and spa services available. It is safe and close to the train station.

Very nice hotel. Clean rooms, great food (also for breakfast, which is rare in Madagascar). The cheaper rooms are quite small, but the whole site is very nicely done, a true oasis in a very hectic city. Great place to start a trip in Madagascar.

Room Tip: we got an update to a slightly better category, which was great (in the cheapest category, rooms are...

Sakamanga is wonder in that chaotic city. Walk in from busy street and you enjoy peace and safety. Green yard is super for relax. Different small bird species come to feed and sing into trees. Lèspace Jardin is very nice place for breakfast and also for dinner. Pizza was one of the best I ever had. Saka restaurant serves very good food on good price.
Staff is friendly and helpful. Decorations are beautiful and rooms clean. Hot water and electricity constant. Good WiFi. The best place to stay for me in Tana.

My reaction to our room - after a 14hr flight and harrowing car ride through the capital city, "Tana" was: Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had no expectations however even if I had there would have been no disappointment on my part. I was taken by both the intimate charm and the craftsmanship of the designer. The materials used to construct - slate, wood, custom paint, purpose built furniture [quality mosquito nets to die for- yet no insects encountered] along with the amenities of on site modern pool, quaint restaurant, wifi made our stay heavenly. They have the coolest mini-museum lining the rabbit warren hallways - so much to take in if you choose. We made sure to book into this hotel when we came back through Antananarivo during our travels. Note: This hotel is a distance from the airport so allow time for travel through the congested streets - but it's well worth the effort.

Room Tip: We book a room for our family of three adults and were given SUPER-SPACIOUS accomodations that would...

This hotel has it all. Nice staff at the reception, immaculate rooms with wood floors and stone bathrooms, a gorgeous Zen pool in the middle of the courtyard, a renowned restaurant connected, AND a delicious pizzeria next door! We stayed here 3 times between flights and it felt like coming home. We couldn't get enough of the pizza champetre (which you can order at the pool as the cafe is part of the hotel!), the chocolate fondue at the restaurant and the amazing fresh fruit juices. Also, they can help set you up with tour guides, taxis (ask for Titus!), etc... A true oasis in the city center, this hotel is not to be missed, make it part of your Madagascar experience!

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the 1st floor as the ground floor rooms have windows facing the pool and quite...
