“Central and comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

I treated myself to a night here before I left for the airport on my last day. I'd been backpacking for several weeks, and had found the little courtyard restaurant at the back to be the perfect spot to have breakfast or just relax with a coffee each time I was in Lilongwe.

My room was fine, but unfortunately the window opened onto the bar area, and the music was intrusive - especially as I wanted a very early night before getting up early for my flight. It didn't go on late though, so most people probably wouldn't be as irritated by it as I was. If you need an early night, ask for a room away from that area.

The other slight downside is the proximity of the craft market. The vendors there are extremely persistent (and numerous). They're hard to avoid when the entrance to the hotel is right next to them.

But all in all, this place is probably the best option in Lilongwe, and as mentioned earlier, the courtyard café is a lovely spot to relax, the staff are extremely pleasant and the food good.

We had occasion to stay at Kiboko 4 different times in 2 weeks, mainly because of our travel scheduling and found it an excellent choice each time. The staff were typically helpful, the rooms were all comfortable and it is in a convenient location. The craft market next door is a mixed blessing. If you need to sharpen your bergaining skills then it is perfect for you.

Our group of 8 stayed here on our last night in Lilongwe after two weeks in Malawi for a volunteer vacation with Habitat for Humanity and some R&R travel. It is an all around great place.

Be aware that it is next to an open air market and as such, when our van pulled up in front of the hotel and 8 light skinned Westerners exited, we were approached for money straight away. Don't be put off, just enter the hotel and head up to the second floor reception. The staff is super friendly and will get you to your clean and comfortable room for a hot shower (if that sounds good to you as it did us).

Breakfast is included and taken at the resturant behind the hotel in the courtyard which is adorable and comfortable. Wifi is availalbe free, but slow. You can also eat lunch at the restaurant, but it closes at 5pm. There is a second floor bar that's open from 5 to 10pm and I would describe it as "Malawian chic!" Our bartender Vincent, also a musician, had his CD playing. He also happened to have some for sale, which we happily bought!

There is a large shopping mall complex within a short walk, but we didn't have time to explore. Also a number of banks and other restaurants around.

I would stay again!

Room Tip: They have singles, doubles and triples.

We stayed at the Kiboko Hotel for one night on our way to Mzuzu. The Hotel is very central, conveniently close to shops and restaurant. The staff is helpful and friendly. Recommended for short business trips or short stop-by.

I would like to recommend to anyone who wishes to be in Malawi - and not in the artificial atmosphere of a palatial hotel - to get to the Kiboko. The staff are great. Incredibly friendly and well organised, the room was well cleaned, the courtyard was the best place in town to be able to work and connect with the wifi. The breakfast was superb. It is not the Marriott (not that I have ever been to one!) but it is real life Malawi, full of local characters.

Room Tip: Ask for one that is not on the front of the hotel, away from the main road

A small group of us stayed at Kiboko while working in Malawi. The rooms were clean with a very Malawian decor! The breakfasts were also very good in the relaxed outdoor courtyard. Overall the hotel was good for catchup meetings and near to restaurants in the town. I would recommend it for a good priced, clean and comfortable stay in Lilongwe.

Room Tip: So far as I know all the rooms are similar
