“It's worth going just because of fetish market”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2011

The most interesting place there is a fetish market (though there're just several spots). You will never find so many attributes for black and white magic elsewhere in the world!
Monkey heads, crocodile heads, dog legs, lion urine, donkey ears, horns, dead parrots, bats, horse pennis, etc. You have to pay 1000 francs (1,5 euro) for taking pictures of one counter, but it's worth it! Come with a local guide and he will tell you the stories how to use all this staff! For example, if you're lack of sexual potention, buy a dry horse pennis, grind it, mix with water and drink - here you are, you are a playboy. Donkey ears help you to weaken your rival in love, or shockfish skin will help a pregnant woman.

“Nice tourist destination”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2010

I went here for the first time in Dec 09 and had a really nice experience. It's well organized, the shops are easy to walk through and the quality looked nice, especially for bags and shoes. Of course you're going to pay more here, but that's the point. It's meant for tourist buyers. But yes, by all means visit while you're in Bamako.

“Bienvenue à Bamako”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2009

Bamako is a great place - a bit rusty around the edges, but fun for the traveler who doesn't mind a bit of heat, dust and friendly "bonjours"

The area surrounding the central artisan market can be a bit sketchy, but once you are inside its confines, the mood is lighter. Friendly vendors abound and lookind around will always be encouraged but beward that you will have to be firm if you are not interested in buying.
