This boutique hotel is comparable to none in Mali in terms of style. Villa Soudan is filled with really beautiful and stunning carvings and other works of art. It is beautiful and set on the beautiful river. Fortunately they provide mosquito nets and spray to guests - recognizing that mosquitoes are unavoidable. The staff are very pleasant, non-intrusive, and this is a terrific location for tourists or business travelers. I recommend booking in advance. My only criticism - very minor - is that the very expensive restaurant is very much oriented to Francophone tastes though the options are of high quality. I think that some vegetarian options and some lighter food would be a terrific addition to the menu as well as including some protein in the breakfast.

This place seems to improve every time I visit it. The welcome is pleasant; the rooms are comfortable, cool and well ventilated. Everything in the bathrooms works. The dining area is an open area which is sometime a problem with insects in the evening. The view of the Niger River is appreciated but it would be nice if the dining area was closed off and air conditioned, I might spend longer there and buy one or two more beers. The service is good and the food is pleasant. They do a different traditional dish every day, which can be an adventure, but always interesting and tasty. I would have no problems going back here.

I stayed here for two weeks and loved the location, the stunning view, the friendly atmosphere, and the spacious room. The quality of the food is very good and the choice of wine was better than in a much more expensive hotel. All the staff are delightful and take special care to remember guest names and assist with anything needed. The area is quiet and there are very close by and convenient services such as a supermarket and a reasonable gym within walking distance. There is a swimming pool in the middle of the bar and restaurant area, but it's also worth knowing there's another, more private, swimming pool in the additional site across the road.

They accept payment in Euros and CFA, but advise against paying in USD due to having to offer a poor exchange rate. This is worth knowing in advance, as having been quoted a price in USD, I changed Euros into USD before going, necessitating far too many currency exchanges.

I'd definitely look forward to staying there again during any further trips to Bamako.

Room Tip: a room upstairs gives a better view and a more private balcony

A peaceful, small, boutique hotel. This is a really great place to stay in Bamako. It is right on the banks of the river, so the view is pretty great. The staff are extremely friendly. Although the location in Bamako itself is in a lovely area, there is also very good security - they check everyone before allowing entry e.g. you can't just stroll in claiming to be visiting someone, the security staff will go and check with that person before letting you in. The rooms are excellent. Very clean, comfortable, spacious and tastefully decorated. Good mosquito nets, air con and a large overhead fan in each room. The garden and outdoor bar/restaurant is beautiful, even has a (very) small pool. The food in the restaurant is very nice, and my only complaint would be that the included breakfast is fairly limited - just coffee, bread, a croissant and jam. A very popular place for a reason, I would say.

I stayed at Villa Soudan for work in July 2012, and while the room ran me about $100/night and you can easily spend $30 on a meal, the ambiance of the hotel, the attentiveness of the staff, and the quality of the rooms and facilities was very nice. There is laundry, a full bar and restaurant, several other restaurants within walking distance, but no gym.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor to improve your view of the Niger river.

We stayed here for a few weeks while looking for a house to move in.

Staff is nice and friendly.
The restaurant is good and clean with a beautiful view of the river, even if the menu is a bit limited if you're planning for an extended stay.
Rooms are spacious with AC, ceiling fan and mosquito nets (even if we saw only isolated mosquitoes here and there).

Overall, recommended. They have a dependance with larger rooms across the road but it does not yet have a generator and you will need to go back and forth with the main building for the pool/restaurant/etc..
