“Good hotel, but....”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

I've been staying at the Saint georges hotel for a week during March 2014. I've booked my room through on line call and at arrival I've been automatically assigned a single room (Number 202) which is really under that category of hotel standards. Clean room but all apparatus (from conditioned air air to bathroom ventilo) are noisy.
That's said, all apparatus are good working but dramatically noisy. You can't switch on the air conditioner without yet shutting it, unbearable noise.
The restaurant is clean and meal's good instead of the very shortened menu card. But well maintained.

Alas! What i got during my staying at that hotel was under my expectation and amazingly under the Hotel possibilities and that's been confirmed shortly before my leaving by the hotel manager. Answering to my questions he shows me very large, nice , clean and well equiped rooms at many floors of the hotel.
Why, then, they hosted me in that little and bad equiped room?
" you've the right to ask for another better room ".The manager said. Too late, I was on leaving.

Probably in my mind getting the worst room in an hotel could be a good experience, when commenting it for potential visitor and avoiding getting it when they choose that hotel (that's at least a satisfaction ;-)

Anyway, a good will has been expressed by the manager and his staff to change things for better. I believe them, and i'll be back.

In fine, Good hotel but temporary somme service lack which be certainely filled because of the good understanding of the management staff.

Room Tip: Avoid the room 202 and in all cases request another room when unsatisfied by assigned room at your a...

Le Saint Georges has excellent location in Port Louis. It is just a couple of minutes walk from the high street with all the banks and the local market. My room was spacious and comfortable, the condition of the hotel does look rather shabby but with no effect on the practicality of the hotel amenities. Breakfast is good with quite a good selection and evening meal is well cooked with excellent quality but ask them not to make it too hot and spicy. The best feature of the hotel is probably its excellent staff with excellent service

Room Tip: Just go for the room they give you and if you don't like something they will fix it for you

The Saint Georges hotel is not a hotel to go to if you are on holiday, its only a stopover hotel for workers traveling on to other countries. The menu is limited and had only 5 main courses for the whole 9 days i was there and some dishes were not good. Getting laundry done in the hotel was so expensive that i ended up washing my gear in the sink as there is not one laundry in the whole city. Instead of hovering the carpet in the room i found the maids mopping them with a wet mop(figure that one out). Only 4 tv chanels in the room, all in french.I tried to get a beer in the (tiny) hotel bar but there was 2 locals there drinking with the barman and you could have cut the cigarette smoke with a knife. I tried to go for a walk after dinner a few times but after 5 o clock the streets are full of prostitutes from the hotel right down as far as the waterfront and you get sick of trying to avoid them.
So i was basically holed up in my room for the whole time as the city of port louis itself has nothing to offer in the way of bars or clubs, im serious, not one bar!!! There is a nice tourist shopping area with a few places to eat down at the water front but everything is very expensive, 3 of us had 3 beers each and a sandwich each in the sunset cafe there and they charged us 2800 rupies (85 us dollars) . What a rip off!!
When i heard that i would be getting a paid stopping over in Port Louis for over a week waiting
for a job i was delighted but now i wouldnt come here if you paid me to!
The only place to go really is Grande Baie or Flick en Flack where all the big hotels are and that is really only for honeymoon couples or retired couples and if you do head up there to get away from the mind numbing boredom of Port Louis the bus is cheap but they stop at 6 so the taxi you have to get back will cost you over 1000 rupies, so be warned.
Im sorry to say Mauritius didnt do it for me and Port Louis left a bad taste in my mouth,,my advice,,,go somewhere else!

Room Tip: Try another hotel!!!

Very basic hotel, only minimums are in the room, needs renovation,

Restaurant is bad, rooms are not clean, lo-bandwidth in internet, but in the walking distance to everywhere, price performance is good, but probably never again.

I have stayed at this hotel twice, for one month each time. Both in August 2012 and December 2012 the hotel seemed to be very quiet, with few guests.
The hotel is not the most glamorous in decor or facilities and it is on the back streets of Port Louis (which in itself has to rate as one of the most boring capitol cities in the world!) but the rooms are comfortable and, I assume cheap, as my company was paying. The staff are largely, friendly, polite and helpful, especially the dining room staff. My only criticisms are that the A/C was worn out and needed servicing and the menu is very limited. The buffet breakfast is very uninspired. However, they do frequently have special lunch menus, which attract more customers and they often host breakfast meetings at the poolside but these intrude very little on the regular guests.
Generally, I enjoy staying at the Le Saint George, although there is not much to do in Port Louis. If you want to walk to Le Caudan waterside, it is an easy, ten minute walk. There are some bars and a nice restaurant called the Sunset Cafe were the staff are very friendly. Also, there is an Indian restaurant which is ok...ish. If you want to get the blood pumping, you can walk through the park up to the radio station on the top of Wireless ridge for a fantastic view of the city, harbour and surrounding areas. From the main bus station you can take a one hour ride up to Grand Baie for 50MUR and go diving with Ocean Spirit Diving, a very well run and professional organisation.

I would say the staff probably try their best but I hope I won't need to stay here again. I was booked there for two weeks by the company but checked out earlier due to following reasons:
- rooms have faults.
- concerns for my safety

The first room I was assigned to, the air-conditioner does not work and there was no security latch on the door.

The second room - air-conditioner worked but kept me up all night as it was very noisy. The bathroom faucet was faulty also, need a number of attempts to turn it off and even then, it leaks. The phone does not work, Had to go down to request for a room change.

The third room - air conditioner was fine the first night but the second night there, it started clicking and kept me awake. The door know was also slightly loose but I was going to overlook this until someone opened the door while I was in the room. Luckily, I had the security latch on and the person could not come in. I had the Do Not Disturb sign on and just prior to that, the front desk confirmed that I do not want room service. Not sure who opened the door but when I checked, there was no one outside, no room service trolley.

Also, I note that there wasn't any female guests so I decided to find another hotel.

If you are a big strong man who just need to crash for the night, you may consider this since the room is clean (no visible stains) but if you are a woman travelling alone, please find somewhere else!

Hotel and rooms are not up to mark. It was my first time to Port Louis, Mauritius and on business trip to meet a client there, a friend of mine had book this hotel for me saying that it is business hotel, with good clean and nice room, including BF andf near to waterfront. The hotel lobby is very small, lift is only one and small and the rooms are small, not good and comfortable, small TV set, very poorly lighted and for WI-Fi, you had stand near your room door to get free WI-Fi connection as the router is hanged outside in the passage way. The room rate was also not that good. I will not recommend this hotel to any one.

Room Tip: I will not recommend this hotel to any one.
