This is an excellent, secluded and out of the city for a peaceful stay. We stayed there for 3 nights and was charmed by the friendliness of Joan and Jean Michel which made our stay very comfortable. Having your breakfast overlooking the city is breathtaking. You are surrounded by the mountains looking over the valley is just beyond belief. You have to be here to experience the site.

Room Tip: We had the room with ensuite + balconies is highly recommended.

I've tried to book this property for four nights, provided BedyCasa with my credit card and that was it! No replies. I've needed to depart from Chicago and did not know whether I have a place to stay and whether my credit card was charged. This is not a way too run an honest business. I've got a suspense instead of pleasant vacation.

I was here for a week to do some research on the island and could not have asked for a better stay. The house is truly beautiful and the hosts are generous, knowledgeable, resourceful and kind. You stay in utter tranquility and wake to breakfast on the terrace looking down to the sea, surrounded by birdsong...and of course enjoying good food.

Transport is arranged by the hosts and made easy to anywhere on the island. Joan and Jean-Michel, the delightful hosts, are always available for recommendations, advice and interesting conversations about the island culture. I was warmly welcomed and well taken care of, quickly dispelling all my concerns about traveling to Mauritius on my own.

During my stay, I took advantage of the B&B's connection with DiveSail and went on three dives. The instruction, equipment and dive sites are all top-notch and DiveSail holds a high reputation for quality on the island, which not all of its competitors share. The dives were all quite magical, with dolphins, turtles and manta rays at close range. I highly recommend taking an excursion with them, even if you don't dive.

I really felt that I got a feel for Mauritius though this stay, something that would be quite difficult to gain through a resort package. If you are looking for a charming and intimate encounter with Mauritius, this is your place. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

If you are going to Mauritius just to lie on the beach this is not the place for you. But if you want to immerse yourself in a spectacular setting, with some of the island's most recognised mountain peaks dotted around you, then look no further. Jean-Michel and Joan have carefully selected this site with intimate knowledge of the island and created a perfect retreat a short drive out of bustling Port Louis. You will breath clean air, sleep in peace, eat too much at Joan's wonderful breakfast spread. You will find it hard to get going in the mornings and the magnificent views will mesmerise you day and night. But there is a lot to see in Mauritius and we recommend you hire a car (the second tier rental companies are cheap and good) and head out to explore. Mon Choix is a great place to base yourself as it is easy to head in any direction from here. Vinod the taxi driver is always ready to assist if you need him too and his rates appear to be very reasonable. If you want to experience a little bit of the real Mauritius with a personal touch, we can highly recommend you do yourself a favour and stay here.

I was here for 3 weeks, to do some work in Port Louis, and it was a wonderful place to be based. I just didn't get bored of the wonderful view down the valley from my room, and it was easy to get in and out of Port Louis by bus, so staying here was further from where I was working, but definitely worth the bus journey up the hill. The room was comfortable, and having a fridge and microwave meant that I could prepare some simple meals there, which was a bonus on a longer stay. If (when?) I'm back in Port Louis, I'll definitely stay here again.

What can I say but to echo the previous reviewers comments.
High, high in the valley lies the rust red Mon Choix, visible for miles around, and actually featured in a Mauritian photo album I was given as a present by my work colleagues, but I digress, from the excellent breakfast to the wonderful dogs, not to mention mine host Jean Michel and hostess Joan, this is simply the best place to stay in Mauritius on my budget at least!
Yes, its far away from Port Louis (15-20mins) but its far away from the traffic, noise and hubbub of a major city, the view is stunning (from my room anyway).
But, if you want to, you can actually eat in the valley, with the locals, in my opinion far better than travelling into Port Louis and far far cheaper, Biriani for £2 for instance.
Vinod the Taxi, IS the most helpful and useful driver, cheaper than the rest and you can even text him to pick you up, whats not to like?.
All in all an excellent stay and with 5 new friends!

Room Tip: Get the big room at the front of the lodge, two balconies

Hidden away on the slopes of a mountain, this is the perfect counter therapy to a days work in the busy city of Port Louis. The hosts Joan and Jean-Michel really do look after their guests making a stay in Mauritius into a very special experience.
The rooms are beautiful as is the large home and terraces. The views are fabulous and the surrounding sounds mostly that of bird song.
I recommend Mon Choix as the perfect accommodation for anyone (perhaps, other than young party goers, as there are no night clubs or such like near by).
For me, I was in Port Louis, but next time it will be a bit of both.

Room Tip: Although a little out of town, with the help of the Mon Choix regular taxi driver, it didn't pro...
